It is very comfortable for kids and beginners/non swimmers as there is lots to see in relatively shallow water. out further and deeper, off the yacht club is more reef and more to see. I snorkel almost daily and have regular stations where I feed the fish.
I am staying on West End Road, close to Westland Mountain, across the road from the old Negril Yacht Club. I belive this place you are talking about should be really close by.?

Best snorkeling off shore in Negril I find is Point Village, but it is private unless you rent/own a condo, or know someone who has. Pirates Cove, near the natural rock pools.
