    Cambio ??

Is there a best denomination to bring to the cambio for exchange? Normally I would take small bills, $1 and $5 in mass quantity, but I want to change $$ this time and have never done so. Is ok to bring a bunch of $20's?

How much $$ do you exchange at a time?

Which denominations do you commonly recieve when exchanging to J? I'll mostly be buying small items like beers and street food, taxis, etc.

Is the cambio by bourbon beach a good choice?

Thank you! I know there are many questions on cambio and exchange so thanks for taking the time on this one!

You can take whatever size paper tender you like. How much you exchange is up to you. Bringing a bunch of $20's or $100's is fine. If you want certain size bills just ask the attendant, and if they have them available they will give you some. I always like using the cambio on the West End, which is called Banmarc(sp). They have two separate enclosed stalls where nobody can see you doing your business. They have a little parking lot out front where you ride can wait and it is a short walk from there to inside the building, so no hassle to worry about.

I like to carry small bills 1000 and smaller. I'm very self conscious about asking small places to break 5000 if I'm only ordering a beer.

If you use the cambio by bourbon beach make sure you count your money right there. I stopped using it because the last two times I was shorted 500J.
If you are worried about something, do something about it. If there is nothing you can do, why worry!

Whipping a 5000J bill out at a rum bar just might be a douche move, so I hear you. Now at a place live Ivan's or one of the bigger tourist places like Rick's it is a non issue. This is no different than the States, where local convenience stores or fast food joints do not accept bills larger than a $20, and post signs saying so. If a large corporate entity back home will not take large bills, why should one expect a local joint in a foreign country to do so?

I normally exchange $100's and always ask for $500's as well as $1,000's. Although the cambio at Bourbon is convenient, I go to FX trader by HiLo. They seem to give a higher rate that is worth the taxi ride.
