As of March 6th, there has only been one confirmed case of Zika Virus in Jamaica and that was a 4 yo who contracted it in Texas.
Just take precautions to prevent bites like you usually would. It is not something to get all excited about yet. There will be more cases but most will probably be in the poorer Corporate areas.

It really isn't anything to worry about in JA yet. There has to be an active outbreak in order for it to spread. The mosquitoes need to bite an infected person to spread it, they don't just carry the virus around on their own.
Did not know that, thanks. Puts my mind at a bit more ease.
Just got bavk. Zero problems. Skin so soft and a little deep will keep you free of mosquitoes and sand fleas. Have fun.
Thanks all! Super looking forward to the trip...wooohooo![]()

I stay on the morass side and there haven't been many mosquitoes so far. I do spray if I am visiting friends here though. I was worried too but the longer I am here the less I worry.

My good friend is a Jamaican doctor. She is currently at U.W.I. medical school getting her final degree in OBGYN. She is far more concerned about H1N1 flu virus than she is about Zika. You can do a search to find out about it on the island. There have been 6 confirmed deaths from it so far one being a 50 year old doctor with other medical issues complicating it. Might want to check into a flu shot.
