    Merrill 2

I have been hearing some bad reviews about Merrils 2. We are booked to go there in September and starting to worry that we may have made a mistake. We have been to Negril a couple times but stayed at the Riu. I wanted to stay on long bay, my wife wanted all inclusive. I was hoping this would have been a good compromise. Has anyone been there recently?

Enjoy...it's not the size of a RIU by any means, but that you'll see is one of the things that make it great..I've never stayed there(or a RIU), but the location is great, and the all-inclusive is nice, but don't let it keep you from venturing to all the nearby eateries.

My general rule of thumb on all inclusives is that I will stay at one provided the price is excellent and I won't mind venturing off to grab local fare. I think you will find it will be just fine at Merrills 2. You'll have the convenience of not having to worry about food or drink if you don't want to. But like others have said, be sure you venture out, so much to be seen and so much to do!

Yeffers - We don't usually stay in an AI in Negril, but have stayed at Merril's twice. The price has been the same as staying at a hotel alone, so we usually ate
breakfast and had drinks whenever we were there but ventured out to eat daily. We have stayed at 2 and 3, and did not have any problems at either. Staff was good,
hotel was clean and a great section of beach if your going out and about!

Last year my brother in law and I walked the beach for a couple hours visiting different places and I knew this is where I wanted to stay this year. I would have no problem staying at a non AI. I'm hoping to catch some live music and definitely exploring more.

I have stayed at Merrils 2 for eight trips now and was just there in April and have yet to have a bad time. Great shade trees, love the staff and I happen to love Chefs food. If my grandmother was Jamaican that's how her food would taste but I am partial to Jamaican style cooking. It's nothing at all like the big AI's. Just a clean well priced place to stay with a great beach location. Close to some great bars and more good food. Yes it's an "AI" but for the price you don't feel bad eating out or bar hopping and can afford to do so. PM me if you want more info. I've stayed at CSA, Hedo, CN and a few others and yet I keep coming back to Merrils. I saw a lot of bad reviews before my first time as well just have to remember everyone is different. Just don't there thinking it's going to be CSA or Riu.. It's not. But for the price you can't beat it.
Indecision may or may not be my problem

I stayed at RIU last year. It was over Americanized fair buffet trough style food. I felt Like I was trapped on a compound. Not a taste of Jamaica's food or people. I much prefer to spend the days on the main beach and take a few tours with my savings. I do other smaller hotels now and get out and see and experience the true beauty of Jamaica. Expect less frills and learn to see more beauty.
    All the best

We were bumped to Merrills 2 in Feb. and we were not disappointed. I thought the whole property was beautiful and the food very good. I didn't drink anything but ting there so cannot comment on the 'adult beverages".....Much cheaper than RIU.....
