The day started with a bowl of grits, two sunny side eggs on top, splash of ginger syrup and some Grace hot sauce. And of course, couple cups of coffee with rum cream.
Switched to rum and coke after breakfast...After a few of those and a couple dips in the sea, decided it was time for a beach walk. Had intentions of making it to Woodstock as I wanted to check out the new set up. From the road, when driving by I could see a big new stage and lots of ground that was cleared.
Stopped in Firefly to say hello to Trevor the security guard and have a beer under my favorite tree. Laying in a lounger under that sea grape tree is one of my favorite spots in the world. Looking forward to a few days of that in Dec.
Walked a few doors down to Sandy Haven and was in the mood to switch to JB and Boom. Bartender said, "No boom, no JB" to which I replied after looking around, "Oh, I forgot, not a local bar. Okay, I'll have it tourist style, rum and coke!" - Looking back, I should have stopped at Sunbeach instead. Bought some banana chips from a kid that usually hangs in that area, ordered a shot of rum to back up my drink then headed off.
By the time I got to Tony's Bar, I needed a refill. No customers, just GraceAnn doing her books. I sat down and asked if she minded pouring me a drink with the intention of only having one, then continuing my walk.
footprints and a well sanded footrest at Tony's Hut.
Of course all the games were out and set up and she challenges me to a game.
I didn't feel like loosing at connect four at the moment so i said yes to anything except that.
She challenged me to ring toss...Now I'm sure she's tossed that ring ten thousand times if she's tossed it once, but what she didn't know is that I also have one set up on my deck at home. Her challenge was best out of three and she ended up hitting one. I took note of her foot placement and took a half step back. The measurements are different than my set up but still the same concept. To her surprise, I hit one for three, then a couple doubles and triples after that.
Okay, I was ready to loose at connect four now. It actually took longer to loose than I expected but still went 0/4 against her. All good games though.
Box dice, which I hadn't played before, but grew bored of quickly because it's simply luck of the dice that decides the winner.
Finally time for domino. Having only recently learned how to play, I was prepared to get whooped but went 8-0 against her...I was sure she was letting me win. By this time a rasta joins us and she tells him to play me. I made some jokes about this being a set up and being hustled; but just in good fun.
Rasta and I traded winning and loosing for a while before I realized how late it was getting. I still had to get back, clean up and make it to Quality's at a decent time.
That's one of the things that I love about Negril and I'm sure many of you share: You take a walk, no real plans, sit down somewhere and take the ride. Like a jellyfish on the tide of life, you don't know where you could end up.
Back to treehouse, quick shower, call Quality and off we go.
He was telling me how he just had some people in and that he had some fresh octopus, nice conch and shrimp. He suggested a seafood medley for dinner. I went with that, along with Irish potatoes; I asked him to chop up some scotch bonnet and mix it in with the mash. Yum, love that kick! I'd do it at home if I thought I could get away with serving it to guests. The seafood was good and while you're usually supposed to go with the chef's suggestion, I couldn't get that garlic sauce off my mind!!! I'm gonna dream about that sauce until I can have it again in December. I plan on attempting it at home but I'll likely end up with a poor facsimile. My stomach was also starting to remind me about my full day of drinking. I mentioned this and apologized to Quality about leaving some sides, whereas I totally cleaned my plate at the previous dinner. He offered some garlic and ginger tea, which by then end of the night, had me comfortable and let me sleep like a baby. Will be adopting that one at home as well. As with many spots in Negril, it's the people that make it special. The food at Quality is delicious but their company is what makes it top notch!
Back at Treehouse and in bed by 11 to get up early enough for a bite, quick swim and 9am pick up.
A wonderful last day indeed.
