Yes robbery is better than killing for no reason but to kill. I doubt this particular tourist was sought out. It was a random person who was robbed. We are mostly all random tourists and I would argue random targets these sad days.

I understand Lisa that no determination has been made as to motive and I appreciate your keeping the facts straight as they should be to be fair to this issue. I was simply pointing out that if robbery was identified as basis for murder then I feel no safer than if it were simply random killing. Again, I think Negril.com is doing a great service by allowing this discourse to be transparent in the spirit of bringing a resolution to what concerns so many. Thank you and prayers for the victim and his family and for bringing back Negril to the paradise place we all know it can be. My loyalty has always been with the Jamaican paradise and its people. That is why I over and over again return there rather than to somewhere else. I believe maybe this event will represent a tipping point to better security.
Just saw this nice bit of news too, hopefully it helps bring the perp to justice.
NEGRIL, Westmoreland — The police high command is offering a reward of $2 million to anyone with information leading to the arrests of the killers of 35-year-old real estate agent Andre Palakai, a Canadian visitor who was gunned down here Friday night.

~Just my two cents worth - I mostly only comment on places I've seen and or eaten at personally.
Here is the latest, that includes the $2 million for information that leads to an arrest:

For those who dont want to click on the link, here is the section Capt was referring to as well as IrieOnline:
" Up to late yesterday afternoon detectives close to the probe were still nowhere closer to the motive behind the attack. The detectives say the tourists were not robbed.
“Absolutely no effort was made to rob them,” a senior investigator close to the probe told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Williams, who visited Palakai’s father Saturday afternoon, gave him a commitment that the police will do everything to bring the killers to justice."
Negril.com - For the vacation that never ends!
BUT if there was no attempted robbery, then doesn't this mean it was a random shooting?
I am no where close to even considering canceling my plans, but I totally understand those that do and will. My blood family, chosen family, friends and all of Jamaica will continue to suffer until big changes are made.
Has there been an arrest?
I almost have to laugh when i see news reports or comments describe a tourist being murdered in Jamaica as a random killing. If it was a robbery gone bad then it was not random and it could happen anywhere. All of us who have been going to Negril for years are aware of the dangers in Negril or anywhere else we live and travel to and most of us use our common sence the best we can to not put ourselves in dangerous situations. I dont want to speculate as not all the facts are in or being shared and some reports or stories say robbery wasnt a motive. We all know to well that some people do not just visit Negril and Jamaica for sunshine, reggae music, rum and ganja and some are there for more than just that and in doing so get involved with an aspect of Jamaica that the average tourist may not know about. Not saying its ok that this has happened because its not and yes it makes alot of us second guess our plans to return to Jamaica but deep down I believe that these men didnt just pull up on a motor bike and say this is the person we are going to shoot today just because we can. There is always much more to the story than just a random killing and i pray that this is the case with this story and it wasnt just a random killing because if that every starts happening in our beloved Negril the people and places we love so much will pay the ultimate price and suffer much more than they allready do.

I am "me" and not part of "we". I don't know for sure that such a thing didn't happen. I am sad to see this happened but not that surprised either. We don't know all the facts and we never probably will.
Hard to be a tourist who vacations frequently in Negril and a homicide investigator at the same time. Relax and give the police a chance to solve this crime. Personal opinions and feelings don't add much to the investigation.
When facts are known, you can trust Rob or others who live in the area will post links where you can read the results for yourself.
