Thanks for the reminder but I've never walked that road day or night and I never will. I never understood why anybody would walk that road with all the speeding cars, no safe area to walk and it being dark.

To each their own, but it's really the best part of Negril to me. I have little use for the beach. I've got great beaches at home. The people, the sights, the sounds of the west end can really be best appreciated on foot and I love to walk. If I felt it was unsafe, it would certainly make a difference as to if and when I return.

I appreciate Negril.com leaving this thread so we can get as much information as possible, while keeping in mind that even news stories may or may not be wholly accurate. Sure, crime happens everywhere, but at home I know when and where I need to be concerned. Only with information can we begin to know this about travel destinations. The widespread fear in the US that Jamaica is very dangerous has historically been based on too little information, not too much.

Marco the bikes are the preferred mode of travel for a lot of the bad things you hear about. They can at least shake up a few things by seizing non licensed and insured ones and searching said individuals. At least they would have to seek out another bike. Worlwide many crimes get disrupted or deterred in routine traffic stops. I think we can agree on that point. The young lady asked about the bikes and I was just telling her my latest information on the issue she inquired about.
