    Yell up, Goldi!

Long time. I know you have been up here but that was 15 years ago! Was hoping to see you again. Too bad I didn't know you were in Jamaica. I will be here until late December should our times cross somehow.

    Big Up!
Very nice Accompong. I spent a few nights about 15 years ago in the country and the view was nice but not as nice as that. Thats exactly the type of place i plan on spending my retirement years at. Just not sure its going to be in Jamaica though. I see why you love it so much
If I would not have been so fortunate to have stumbled upon Accompong Town some 25+ years ago, I don't know (or think) I would have chosen Jamaica as a retirement destination. I have lived all over the island and have found beauty and friendships but always with a fair share of hardship and challenges. Accompong is a very different type of place. Small and family-like where, if you are accepted, you don't just survive; you thrive. If I didn't have ties to work I like in South Florida, I would stay here forever.

Saturday morning early before sunrise and I just laid in bed listening to the muted sounds of people getting ready for their day on the West End of Negril. What was missing? Ahhh, it was the sound of chickens squawking as they fluttered from the trees where they roosted for the night to avoid a stray dog and the call of a she goat summoning her brood for an early taste of a mother's milk. I smiled a knowing smile that those sounds will go on in my absence and that for the next four nights I will miss going to sleep to the lullaby of crickets chirping and frogs croaking throughout the night.

No one else was stirring in the house but I can never seem to sleep in late so I quietly got dressed, opened the door and parted the magnetic curtains to the verandah and settled in my chair to await the sunrise and experience Negril waking from her sleep. One by one over the next hour my fellow housemates got up and joined me on the verandah. The smell of coffee brewing was coming from the kitchen. Time for a cup and to make plans for another day.

We decided to go to SeaStar for the buffett and show but when I called, I found out there was neither happening that night. Bummer. Guess we will just have to give "Killer" a call for his delicious Jerk Chicken to be delivered for dinner (His number is 296-1682 should you want to give him a try). We asked for a delivery sometime around 4pm and no later than 5pm so we could plan our day around it. We got two chickens (8 quarter chickens) plus sides of calalloo and bread plus a bottle of his special Jerk Sauce delivered for $4000 Jamaican. We tipped him another $1000 as he has no car and pays route taxi fares to get to us and he has to make a little bratta for his efforts.

Between entertaining some friends, reading a book and using the FLOW Internet, my day was full and then dinner arrived. We had so much food that we invited Killer to join us for dinner and had enough leftovers for chicken sandwiches with Jerk Sauce on Sunday.

Sunday and Monday were pretty much a replay of Saturday and we even decided to do the Killer Chicken again for Monday's dinner. We just couldn't find a good reason to go anywhere when we had almost anything we wanted or needed at our fingertips or within a close walk to a nearby store.

Tuesday would be Mary and my last night in Negril as she was going home and I was returning to Accompong Town on Wednesday. We finally made a plan to do something. We decided to go out for dinner on Tuesday night and we decided on the Canoe Bar. Who says that four people with five opinions can't decide on anything!
