Parties and Musical Events Banned in Negril?????!

I've been reading about this for awhile and now read that a ban has been implemented. Does this mean places like Bourbon Beach and Alfreds will no longer have music? What about the Jungle? What is going on?

There is a post on the Negril Boardies Facebook site by Bourbon Beach that speaks about the issue

There seems to be some misinformation being posted and shared on social media. It is not quite accurate as usual.

I just spoke with Roots Bamboo and they are having their free show tonight. They're following all the requirements, such as permits and sound limits and are having their live music.

As has been discussed here recently, the average visitor doesn't want to wait for the main act to come on stage at 1:30am. Concerts ending by midnight seemed to be the most favored.

The laws are being enforced, and if you are louder than you should be or go beyond the scheduled time, the show will be shutdown and your permits may be revoked.

But entertainment is still happening as long as the shows have proper permits and follow the sound limits.

This is really nothing new. I have seen many shows stopped over the years for no permits, too loud or going too late.

Selfishly if the cutoff is midnight, I have zero issue with that as a 40+ year old traveler. That would bring the main act on stage between 10-11 PM, which is just fine by me.

That page is not affiliated with the Negril.com "Negril Boardies - since 1996" page. The admin of that page is not living in Jamaica. They are a visitor to Negril.

Bourbon Beach does seem to be the original author of that post, which has been shared and copied all over FB and Twitter.

There have been no complaints from other beach venues such as Alfred's, Roots or Fun Holiday.

Thanks for the clarification b/c the way I read it on FB was that there was no more music at any of the venues. If I can still go to Alfreds, Roots Bamboo and Bourbon Beach for music whether it's a live performer or DJ, then its all good. I'm a 40+ year old traveler and I sometimes do like to stay out passed midnight so that seems like an early cut off.

Rob - thanks for the clarification. I couldn't imagine that happening in Negril.

Rob please clarify as you are there on the ground what is happening with events that are NOT the beach venues everyone knows about. By this I mean parties proposed BY Jamaicans FOR Jamaicans. Big annual events such as Different Strokes etc. The word I am hearing from promoter friends is that indeed their permits are being denied.

Permits are not being granted for events that are in residential areas or have received complaints in the past FROM Jamaicans.

Not everyone was happy with the booming bass, children could not sleep let alone their parents. And now with pets becoming more a part of the changing Jamaican landscape, they become scared during some of the really loud shows. Dogs may bark until the show is over. No one likes that.

I have been speaking with one of Negril's main promoters since these rumors started and he said some of these annual events will have to relocate and the promoters will need to make an effort during the upcoming busy season to prove they can run responsible shows. The onus is on the promoters.

He is as Jamaican as they come and did not see anything wrong with the enforcement of the existing laws.
