Re: Mayfield vs ys
Mayfield. IMO. Bring you some old tennis shoes to wear walking up the falls. If not they rent you some WORE out shoes for 6 bucks.

Re: Mayfield vs ys
Not sure if it's still this way but there are two entrances to Mayfield Falls. Our driver took us to the old original entrance. The best in his opinion. The other place starts and ends at different points on the river (I think further upstream). Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
There is an entrance fee that gets you a cabana style place to change and keep your personal items. The guide will take your camera and look after it on the journey. Tips are a must for the guide. Be generous and extra generous if he's really good. Mayfield is a guided walk up a flowing river cascading over relatively shallow falls. Places along the way to dive, swim under rock structure, rope swing etc.. It can be a bit challenging for those with mobility issues. Very enjoyable and stunningly beautiful. It's really a great experience. But even the walk out is long and uphill. It's could be a bit exhausting for those not used to physical exertion. Not me of course.
YS falls on the other hand has a series of 2 or 3 cascading falls with a large fall that you can swim to and get under. Your going against the current so you need to be a reasonably good swimmer. There is a Zip line (I didn't try). There's also a concrete wading pool. Very beautiful area and an enjoyable and less physical excursion. It's been a long time but I think there was food available.

Re: Mayfield vs ys
I can only say I went to Mayfield and found it to be an excellent 1/2 day trip. However, my friend that went with me to Mayfield later went to YS and Dunns River Falls. He said out of the three that he liked YS the best.

~Just my two cents worth - I mostly only comment on places I've seen and or eaten at personally.

Re: Mayfield vs ys
YS Falls can be combined with an all day adventure to Black River, Bamboo Ave, Pelican Bar, Appleton Estates, Bluefields Beach, middle quarter & YS Falls. Not necessarily all of those choices in one trip.
Mayfield Falls is my favorite of the three (YS, Dunn's & Mayfield). It is a great 1/2 day trip and depending on how you time it, you can stay for lunch. Just a few notes, I always bring inexpensive water shoes from Walmart. I have tried Mayfield Falls barefoot and it wasn't as enjoyable. Inquire about the level of the water. I have walked the falls in low water and high water. High water was a challenge for me and that was almost 20 years ago! I always let the guide handle the camera.
Enjoy,

Re: Mayfield vs ys
Mayfield you actually walk/hike IN the river. YS you have the option of getting in or not.
YS had zip lining, a pool and lovely grounds you can also combine YS with Black River
Mayfield has a lot of natural beauty
