    Cop Murdered in Negril?

From what I read and I understand there is bad information out there, but a cop was shot dead in Negril yesterday by men on a motorcycle and the threat to law enforcement has been heightened to extreme meaning further violence is imminent. Please correct me if I am wrong but this is very troubling with high season just around the corner. How should we feel safe? I know it happens everywhere you may say bu I disagree. Sure it happens in other places but we stay away from places where there is this type of threat. Sad....

BostonBob...you can say you disagree, but unfortunately it IS happening everywhere...it seemed everytime we turned on the US news here in Jamaica a police officer was being shot...horrible, horrible anytime, anywhere!

When you read the link I've attached...the officer was on "suspension from duty" and "employed to a security company".

Here is some further info this morning...

I agree with you....I hate that statement of it happens everywhere b/c like you I would stay away from those places. But saying that, you still should feel safe in Negril. I practice the same safety precautions while there as I would at home. It is sad indeed but still go and enjoy!

    Re: Cop Murdered in Negril?

    BBob,

The JCF High Commission raised the threat level for their family of officers to " extreme", out of caution. There have been 3 officers shot in the last 4 days around the island. One in Kingston on Friday during a robbery, one in MoBay on Saturday and now the one last night. This is unusual and thus the warning to their officers.

Since this is so unusual, the highest level was warranted. Its definition is technically "imminent" but that doesn't completely fit the disconnected profile of these shootings.

Having a police woman as a neighbor, it is good to hear that the warning has been passed on to the entire force. Everyday when we see her leave for duty, we always say to have a safe day. Being a cop is a tough job.

Police being killed anywhere is always troubling.

Hope this is not too off the topic. If so, just delete it Rob (with my apologies).

The "Meat for Guns" http://jamaica-gleaner.com/article/n...ging-meat-guns is boosting praedial larceny across Jamaica and those guns are getting into the hands of lottery scammers among others. This is part of the reason the police are having so much trouble. I don't know if a suspended policeman and the illegal bikes prevalent in Westmoreland are connected in some way but all the facts are not yet known.

Jumping to conclusions in Jamaica is a National Sport.
