But honestly, it's just me, I travel alone for now, so a few extra bucks here and there are built into my travel budget. I always worry about being too cheap, actually.

Hope we are in a good spot, you and me! Thanks again!
For sure, and I'm with you on tipping on a drink, and I would probably give a couple bucks to the greeter, I just thought $10 a bit steep. I was thinking of how many people do they greet and take through to the lounge in a given day? A hundred? I really don't know, but doing the math on $10/pp (if everyone were so generous) that would be a real nice gig. The only thing that does sometime irk me about tipping everywhere is the expectation it tends to create, and feeding the "beggy beggy" thing. I tend to tip modestly where appropriate, and more generously when I feel someone truly went above and beyond.

And yeah, we're good for sure. There is really only one person on this site that I don't care for, and he knows who he is. I have no issues with you in any way, and I never have. I do think you are overly generous, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I like that you're enthusiastic about Jamaica, need more people that are positive. Keep doing what you do, but give the west end a shot one of these trips. It may not suit your style, but it's a different experience entirely to stay there rather than just spending part of the day. Respect boss lady.

[QUOTE=TAH;184545]Not judging, it just seems like a lot to tip for a service that you're already paying good money for.[/ service I pay for is the fast track on arrival and the lounge on departure... while not for everyone, it's something I enjoy, esp finally as a solo traveler.

Well, I spend 12 months saving,I guess... mostly I see it as courtesy. If someone is pleasant and treats me kindly, like, genuinely kind... I think they deserve whatever I can afford. It's a vacation... When I ride the shuttle to my hotel, I sit in the front seat and chat the driver up the whole way... well worth $10 for him, imo. Ten dollars to greet me with a name placard and graciously escort me through the airport, carry my luggage, make sure my transfer is organized... well worth $10 to me... and a dollar a drink is just my standard. To me... what's a dollar? And to Jamaican, what's $112 or whatever the exchange is.. to me it's about the courtesy of appreciating someone is a small way. I also give $200j for my taxi rides, and I've gotten **** for it from locals... but what am I going to do with 30 j?

Once I get to my place, I'm pretty self sufficient. I eat out but if I'm paying half what I would at a US restaurant, or more! Why not give an extra one or two dollars to the waitstaff?

Why? What do other people tip? ?????

I'm a maniac with the tipping as well. Here in the states too. The bartender and outside staff at my country club love me.

I used to work in the service industry. I try to give back.

I am also a member of Overtippers Anonymous, but only if service is being provided, no handouts. I feel that anyone that is working deserves a little help as I'm sure the boss man is already getting at least his fair share.

I find costs for things in Jamaica a very similar to what we pay at home so for me I tip as I would at home. I too am in the service industry and tipping someone for a job well done is important to me. On the other hand if someone does a poor job or acts like an a**hole it will be reflected in the tip I give.

Funny story though, we were sitting in a local Jamaican establishment (won't name) and a worker brought me a beer which I paid for and I handed him a tip of one US dollar. He threw it back on the table and said "what am I going to do with one dollar!". I picked up my beer and my dollar and walked away.
