    Cool Porters, Montego Bay Airport

    Do the Redcap porters at the airport bring your bags outside to curb side? We normally look after on own bags and haven't used this service in the past.

    The porters will bring your bag anywhere you want. I think the tipping rate is still a buck a bag...I could be wrong.

    Love the Redcaps...have had them bring my bags to my car in the parking lot and shove my luggage in the trunk for me...even had one watch my bags as I ran around looking for people...so yes, they will bring your luggage curbside.
    Just tip them fairly (there is a sign with the rates somewhere $1 or 2 a bag, but I get extra service so I pay extra)...they save you from a lot of sweating when you first arrive!

    Even if I can manage my own bag, I still let them wheel my bag right over to Groovy Grouper as I wait for my driver. If my driver is there, they will wheel it curbside. I don't remember seeing any sign of $1-$2 per bag....I usually just give $5 -- for a large suit case, wheeled cooler and small wheel carry on.

    from the MBJ website: http://www.mbjairport.com/passenger-services

    'Red Cap' Porter Service

    Red Cap Porter Services are available at all times to the travelling public at both the Departures and Arrivals for a minimum fee of US$ 1.00 per bag.

    Efficient and courteous porters will assist passengers in moving their bags from:

    Departures – from curbside of the terminal building to the airline check-in position;
    Ground Transportation Arrivals Hall to a point at curbside appropriate for obtaining the type of transportation required by the traveller.

    I have both let the porter take my bag, and rolled my own out to the shuttle... If I'm going somewhere and they already have the bag on the cart - like sandals- I don't mind.... but if I can do it myself and no one offers, I just roll myself out to the bus!
