    It's in the media...here's a link...

It happened far up a lane in a residential area of Negril...not on the West End Rd.

Can we blame this on the lotto scam as well? ugh!

    dat article is inaccurate......
mi heard gun shots around 12:45am yesterday morning coming from a lane close to mi when wi partying in da yard on PeWee Lane aka Ella Drive....
evidently Chris who was running a bar up by Central Park Car Wash on the West End....
was shot and killed where him was staying not too far from mi.......not up at his place of business by the Car Wash..
mi would never heard the gunshots if dem came up from his bar up by da Central Park Car Wash....too far

Just so all involved know....the argument that started earlier this morning in another thread has been cleaned up by the moderators & some unnecessary posts removed.

We don't have any way of knowing the reason behind this incident...but as Marko stated the information in the media is inaccurate. The victim was ambushed at his place of residence.

I'm going to assume you mean elephant in the room...and there's no elephant in the room here.

I'm sure everyone's attention was more focused on the horrific and senseless massacre at the Ft Lauderdale Airport and most are grasping what is going on down here already , ie. the lotto scam and consequences of being involved. The tragic incident in Negril ended up paling in comparison to the horrible, random act in Florida.

Jojo, there's no elephant here as obviously it's being discussed.

Forgive me. I understand the "elephant in the room" metaphor. How does it apply to the forum?

She means she posted it early in the day, but very few comments were made. Likely because everyone is afraid to say anything, because they'll probably get scolded and their comment deleted. I think it was an apt description of the situation.

Very sad to hear the violence continues...Here is a link to the United States Department of State 2016 Jamaica Crime and Safety report...

    https://www.osac.gov/pages/ContentRe...aspx?cid=19562

Lottery Scam is mentioned as a big issue but I think this is the root of most of the problems...

Police corruption and police involvement in criminal activity is not uncommon. Citizens are often indifferent to police authority, adding to a perceived sense of lawlessness. The general perception is that the majority of crime victims do not report crimes against them due to fear of reprisals by the police, the belief that police are corrupt, or the feeling that nothing would come from such reports. Reporting crime can seem archaic, and the confusing, lengthy process is widely believed to be a waste of time except for the most serious of crimes where a police report is required for insurance purposes.

I experienced a hit and run with my rental car in Negril a couple of years ago (no injuries). I went through the process of reporting the crime (I had the licence plate number) and in hindsight I should have just continued on with my vacation because nothing came out of the report other than lost time. I guess my wife, children and I now know what Negril Police station looks (dump) and smells like (ganja) but I think we would be just fine without that memory.

I was told to stop by the police station right before I left the island to pick up the police report for the rental car company but it wasn't even started. I stopped in to the station right before driving back to Mo Bay for our flight which was three business day after the hit and run...Soon Com Mon...

I paid the $500 deductible to the rental company and never heard from Negril Police (they told me they would mail a copy)...Oh well, I learned from the experience and no longer do my own driving in Jamaica...Sit back and enjoy the ride.
