I think you're right, Marko. You might want to consider starting your search at you're preferred hotel. Show up, ask for the cost of your stay if paying cash and counter their offer if it's the same as their emailed rate. For various reasons, I've been restricted to off season in Negril and always found people were grateful for my business. I've never stayed anywhere where there was more than a handful of guests.
