Any quad band GSM phone will work with a Digicel or Lime SIM.

    AT&T, T-mobile etc

    Depends on you needs.

I have a BLU Dash LTE that is my dedicated JA device. About 200.00 when I bought it. I use it as my internet connection (I get strong 3G on Zion Hill) It's also my contact phone for calls from Jamaica or the States.

At the other end of the spectrum I have an old Motorola flip phone that takes a SIM and it's just fine for talking on.

You are carrying it for a friend?

My suggestion (for what it's worth) is buy one in Jamaica with him/her there at the Digi or Flow store

It goes much better that way

Or he assumes it will be free since you are bringing it for him. You can get phones in JA for cheap. You can also buy used ones on sites like Ebay for cheap.

phones brought from N America have to be unlocked in order to use in Jamaica......
put a foreign sim(sim other than the carrier that you use) in the phone.....
and if it ask for a code or doesn't work with that sim....then you need to unlock it
you can get the codes off the internet for pretty cheap money.....
for Lollipop and Marshmallow Androids.....also make sure the phone is not google locked(remove the google account from da phone) in case you give it to somebody......
otherwise they won't be able to use Facebook, WhatsApp, etc on da phone.....
