I spray febreeze in my suitcase, the contents and the clothes I wear before going into the airport leaving Jamaica....not that I am carrying anything but I do hang out with smokers and don't want to be hassled when it is time to leave.....depressing enough when I fly home, thank you.

I was searched in Toronto two years ago. I had traveled with a girlfriend (only for the flights) but our travelling together ended at Sangsters.. she went to stay with her husband and went to visit with a friend; we stayed in a guest house. When entering Toronto I guess they thought because we didn't do the typical resort vacation that we were suspect... The asked me where I stayed and with whom... same as Manda. The funny thing was the look on the woman who was searching my belongings when she asked me what I did for a living... I told her I worked for a large hospital and I was an Addictions Counsellor... she barely searched me after that.

I wonder if I'll be searched this december when it will be my fourth visit down this year (maybe fifth if I can squeeze it in).

I think if you are single/white/female/visiting a male/travelling solo.. i think there is a big target.

Well as a woman traveling alone and this will be my fifth trip to Jamaica, and the only place I have been that is on my passport (other times when in the Army), I have no doubt that I will be more than likely subject to closer attention than most, so will be sure and wash all clothes and vacuum out the suitcase for any seeds or stems, lol!

I've been traveling solo to Jamaica since the early eighties & the only time I was ever even "patted down" was when I was pregnant with my son, 25 years ago! I thank God for that, because I am now traveling from Ja. to the US, more often, with short stays in the US. I guess, since I live in Ja. I am not the usual suspect. I leave with two bags in my checked baggage, one, a duffle rolled up. When I return, I am coming back with TWO checked bags (at the limit) and my carryon PLUS my computer bag (which is BIG with many compartments), so I am a different kind of traveler. I'm coming back with the things I can't get in Ja!

I'm very interested to see what my PNR information is that was collected from that flight and shared with CBSA so I have filled out the application and am sending it in. I will share the info because I think it might be a source of information or understanding just how much these situations are documented.

Amazingly enough I get hassled the most leaving Mobay...they always want ME to haul my 60 pound bag on top of one of those long white cafeteria looking tables so they can look through my clothes??? I always look at the lady like " Do you know how much this thing weighs !?!!".

I always think I'm going to get stopped at customs in the US after they see my passport with the bazillion Jamaica stamps, but I always get lucky...thank goodness. I might have to put up a fight if they try to take all the bottles of Rum Cream I have wrapped up in towels in my luggage!

On my first trip to Jamaica in 1990 for Sunsplash I witnessed a couple of guys get arrested.........in Mexico! We were on a Funjet chartered Continental flight from Montego Bay to Houston. Right after take off, the guy in front of us decided he wanted to listen to his jam box and was trying to tune in a Jamaican radio station. The flight attendant came back and very nicely told him he needed to turn it off. His reply was "F@$k You, Bi@%&. I paid for my ticket. I'll do whatever I want" The flight attendant looked quite shocked and just walked off. The guy then started giving his buddy high fives and saying "Yea, I told that Bi@#&". About 5 minutes later the Captain came back and was not near as polite. He told the guy "First you are in violation of FAA regulations. Second your radio can cause problems with our instruments and therefore, you are putting everybody in this flight in danger. And third you DO NOT speek to any member of my crew like that". The guy gave the Captain the same response but followed it with a nice "What the F&$k are you going to do about it?" Well, the captain calmly turned around and headed back to the cockpit. The idiot then starts again with the high fives and tough talk with his buddy. His tough guy act stopped real quick. DING! "This is your captain speaking. I am sorry to inform you that we have a passenger who refuses to comply with FAA regulations. Therefore, we are going to have to make a unscheduled stop in Cancun, Mexico to ask him to get off the plane"

Well the guy did turn of the radio but kept telling his buddy "He's just bluffing". You should have seen the look on his face when we started our descent. He immediately jumped up and headed for the bathroom (everyone assumed he was flushing something). We landed in CanCun and as soon as the plane came to a stop it was surrounded by police and soldiers. Some very unpleasant looking guys came on and escorted the idiot and his buddy off the plane. We sat on the runway in that hot plane (it was June) for over 3 hours before we were able to take off again (without the idiot and his buddy).

About a year later my two friends and I were subpoenaed by the FBI and had to give testimony to the U.S. Attorney. We heard a while later that the idiot ended up getting 3 years in prison and his buddy got 18 months. I imagine if he had puld this stunt post 9/11 he would have been given a much longer sentence and possibly one in Cuba...
