On my first trip to Jamaica in 1990 for Sunsplash I witnessed a couple of guys get arrested.........in Mexico! We were on a Funjet chartered Continental flight from Montego Bay to Houston. Right after take off, the guy in front of us decided he wanted to listen to his jam box and was trying to tune in a Jamaican radio station. The flight attendant came back and very nicely told him he needed to turn it off. His reply was "F@$k You, Bi@%&. I paid for my ticket. I'll do whatever I want" The flight attendant looked quite shocked and just walked off. The guy then started giving his buddy high fives and saying "Yea, I told that Bi@#&". About 5 minutes later the Captain came back and was not near as polite. He told the guy "First you are in violation of FAA regulations. Second your radio can cause problems with our instruments and therefore, you are putting everybody in this flight in danger. And third you DO NOT speek to any member of my crew like that". The guy gave the Captain the same response but followed it with a nice "What the F&$k are you going to do about it?" Well, the captain calmly turned around and headed back to the cockpit. The idiot then starts again with the high fives and tough talk with his buddy. His tough guy act stopped real quick. DING! "This is your captain speaking. I am sorry to inform you that we have a passenger who refuses to comply with FAA regulations. Therefore, we are going to have to make a unscheduled stop in Cancun, Mexico to ask him to get off the plane"

Well the guy did turn of the radio but kept telling his buddy "He's just bluffing". You should have seen the look on his face when we started our descent. He immediately jumped up and headed for the bathroom (everyone assumed he was flushing something). We landed in CanCun and as soon as the plane came to a stop it was surrounded by police and soldiers. Some very unpleasant looking guys came on and escorted the idiot and his buddy off the plane. We sat on the runway in that hot plane (it was June) for over 3 hours before we were able to take off again (without the idiot and his buddy).

About a year later my two friends and I were subpoenaed by the FBI and had to give testimony to the U.S. Attorney. We heard a while later that the idiot ended up getting 3 years in prison and his buddy got 18 months. I imagine if he had puld this stunt post 9/11 he would have been given a much longer sentence and possibly one in Cuba...
