Ibirie, you tell a good story!![]()
For years and years I was searched on arrival to the States. Even though I had a residency visa and work permit they still looked at everything.
It probably was the briefcase full of US dollars I would carry back with me that aroused their suspicions.
Before you jump to any conclusions it was totally legal.
I was in business and part of the JNIP (Jamaica National Investment Program) and was granted a ten year tax exemption in Jamaica. Also, in those days if you were "domiciled" in a foreign county as per the tax code your foreign earnings were not taxable in the US. No longer the case.
After 6 or 7 years of this I was interviewed by the IRS and DEA for a few hours. They said they'd been watching me for years and that I was either the best damn smuggler there ever was or completely innocent. Either way they shook my hand and said goodbye.
I was never stopped after that.

Wow, so glad to see I am not the only one to get patted down on a regular basis! The past two years I have travelled to Jamaica twice in 2011 and twice in 2010. This had not been a problem until this last trip since I was travelling alone! I am amazed that I can go through all of the security clearances at multiple airports, get my bages wiped down for cocaine, have to put all of my items down again at the gate and be patted down again, oh wait, plus take off my shoes to be inspected one more time as well. That is just at Mo bay airport..............Next I will arrive at another airport where I have to go through all of this over again even though I have not left the airport, plus pack my alcohol now into my checked bag before I put it back on the line to reach my final destination...........Finally I will make it to my final airport Detroit. The only problem is I am a Canadian, therefore I need to cross the border to Windsor and one more time answer the same questions over and over to the customs officer and once they are taking their time I know I am being pulled in. "Do you know where to go?" I say yes. I pull in and they proceed to search my bags and purse one more time for good measure! I am amazed that they think I would lie or that all of the other security I have been through would have missed anything if I had tried to bring anything back.........This won't stop me from travelling to Negril twice each year. Good luck to all!
Can't wait....Negril!,November 2012 for 6th visit.
actually mi know someone that did......lol........lol......another idiot.......lol
likkle story.....it's tru too.......lol.......lol......mi always get a chuckle when mi think of this.......
mi first time to Negril and mi was really looking forward to it after hearing how great it was when mi was in Ochie in '82
so this youngster lands at HedoII in '84 and was getting accustomed to mi room which was on the beach side.....
it had real nice views out mi windows lookie at da beach.....
and mi guess dem gals out der on da beach forget der bathing suits....
boy mi liking this place call Hedo.....lol
then mi hear a knock on da door.......chit.....who the heck is disturbing mi lookie thingy.......lol
then mi hear da door opening......WTF........someone's got a key to mi room......lol
now there is guy is standing der......WTF.......
he says "hey mi your new roommate"........chit......"mi from Los Angles, CA"
.....chit.......they said mi might not get a roomate.....dayum.....
so much for having mi own room......dayum again
mi say "happy to meet you"......"mi from Boston"......and then the usual BS
so mi new roommate was acting real funny and mi asked is sumthin wrong mon........
him looks at mi and him announces "you won't believe this".......
so now mi thinking the guy is going to tell mi him gay or sumthin......chit.....
hope him doesn't have a funny ideas......mi hear dem guys from Cali are a likkle bit different
he then announces "I got arrested at da airport!!!!!!!!"......WTF.....

mi said what the heck for mon?
him then says for "POT"......wow.....mi said how the heck did they ever get on da the plane mon?
him says "no they busted mi in the Montego Bay airport"........WTF..........
mi saying to myself who would ever be stupid enuff to bring in POT to Jamaica......
mi couldn't get over dis so mi said" you got arrested for bringing in POT into the biggest POT capital of the world".........
so mi interest was up so mi asked "so what happened?" and "why did you do this?"
him said "they found mi stash in mi luggage and they detained mi for 3 hours and gave mi the riot act"
"they said mi might be goin to jail but instead dem put mi on the watch list and they let mi go "
him says "they basically ended up slapping mi hand and said not to do it again".......duh
mi said you gotta be the stupidest son of a ***** or the craziest mother mi ever met....
him says "mi had some really good chit and didn't think they'd find it"
mi said you are certainly the luckiest son of a gun cause they should have thrown your ass in Jail.....
so mi thinking mi gotta deal with an idiot now while on vacation.....why mi.......
mi was there for ten days and luckily he was only there for 5 days......
and in the 5 days mi only saw him twice....jah bless
and I had one of the best vacations ever.......at the ZOO
even though some guy thought it was necessary to bring sand to the beach........lawd of mercy

I was stripped and cavity searched. No other encounter in my life has been that horrible and only once online.
My father passed so I had back to back trips, a week apart. I tried to explain a heart attack has a mind of its own and did not care about timing or how it would look to immigration. They took me in a small room with a small chair and told me to get undress. Man, was I glad I was wearing clean and pretty underwear. A strip search doesn't stop there so I will leave the rest to your imagination with a mean looking B!t@@ by the name of Bertha! IT WAS HORRIBLE!
IREE....JAMAICAN BORN AND BRED
Tic Toc,I agree. I never really gave "mules" very much thought until this happened. When I got home I did some research on it via the internet. The pictures I saw of what they actually carry inside of them look like little bullets. How much money could you possibly make? It can't be that much. But I'll tell you one thing, when they put my urine sample on the test tube holder, there were about seven or eight other tubes there. So, I wasn't the only person that happened to that day. Unless they never throw them away, LOL!!
OMG Marko, lol...that's insane!
Dawta, how horrible..Bertha...really? chit mon! I feel for you! can you refuse a cavity search and ask for an x-ray instead??what a total invasion!
Can someone explain what the drug tests are for. Are they to see if you may need further investigating or??? What could they do if one was to test positive for drugs, but didn't have anything on or in them?
jx2
The security lady (who was actually very nice) told me that even if you fail, if they don't find anything on you, there is nothing they can do. If I would have failed I would be x-,rayed to see if I ate it since they found nothing in my suitcase. I am assuming , if it got to that point, and I was x-rayed and they found nothing, they would have to let me go. To be honest, my biggest fear was being set up. I read a lot about the JA police wanting paid off for things that may not even be true. What if they said they did find something looking for a payoff, then what would I do?
I really think that I should call the U.S. Embassy before my next trip and tell them what happened. I should at least get a little educated on my rights in case it does happen again. Jamaica is a totally different country, I have no idea what their legal system is all about.
i did once. totally unintentionally, totally had no idea i did it -- until i unpacked - then i was likewho the hell smuggles stuff INTO Jamaica??![]()

when i realized that something fell into my suitcase as i was packing, and i just never noticed
