Has anyone ever stayed here?
Has anyone ever stayed here?
Years ago when it was called "Hogs Heaven". Love the location for comfort, but going into Negril or other spots every day is some what of an issue. Just due to it being "out" there.
Oh yes, The Westender,
Deep West, and so private.
I stayed there last year in November.
It was great!
I stayed in one of the cabins.
There are 2 sides.
One on water with bar, buildings and rooms and office.
Then there are 4-5 cabins (which are really nice rooms)
tucked away across the road.
The cabins are behind the restaurant.
The food is top notch.
The manger of the restaurant area was there bright and early with coffee.
I think his name is Paul, he was very professional and attentive the whole time.
The swimming pool is on a second level next to the restaurant and bar.
Nice pool shaped like the Island of Jamaica.
I met the owner a few years ago.
Big Dan, a great guy.
At dinner time, be ready for a 4 star meal.
I had the stuffed chicken breast and veggies with garlic mashed potatoes.
I think I had it twice, soooooo good.
Well done chicken, moist and juicy.
It's amazing to have a top notch chef, so far out there.
I'm sure every hotel would LOVE to steal him away.
The prices are not cheap, but the quality is way above a regular restaurant.
My lady and I started the meals with Chocolate Banana daiquiris (marvelous)
Across the road is another really nice bar.
(and speaking of road, a car will not pass for hours at a time.)
My girl drank half of her drink, then noticed a wasp had flown in her glass.
The lady/barmaid immediately gave her another full one.
You can go snorkeling right off the rocks and there is a small beach area too.
If you like great service, great food and privacy, this is the place.
Not a care in the world, kick back with peacefulness.
Absolutely, positively no higglers/people trying to sell you things.
The grounds are expansive.
A very big field, well groomed is next to the Restaurant/Bar side.
I did visit the rooms across the road in the buildings too. Nice.
The cabins are super clean, bathrooms, A/C, and cable TV.
Nice hot water all the time.
The bed was so comfy, I had to drag my lady friend out of bed in the mornings.
It is way out in the Deep West, but not a bad drive, scenic in a way.
only about 20 -30 minutes and before you know it, you are there!

I have friends who have stayed there since the late '90s. They stay for 3 months every winter in one of the cabins. They also rent a car. When I used to stay at a neighboring property, Secret Paradise (now defunct), I also rented a car. Westender does have a shuttle. I've even taken it for a lunch and dip in the pool when I used to stay at Blue Cave Castle.
We're all in this together and none of us is getting out alive.
Hey Marblehead,
how are ya bub?
Yep, I forgot about the shuttle van.
I saw it, Nice.
I never took it, but good to know it is there.

We know Paul from his days of managing Legends & he's everything you say!!

Any additional info on when and where their shuttle runs? How long of a drive from there to the beach? What is within walking distance (say, 30 minutes in either direction)?
I've never stayed at Westender, but have been at the property. It's pretty far into the deep West End, but within a 30 minute walk you can get to the area of Out of Town Pastry and Just Natural. On the way, you will pass a couple bars (The Sunset Pub and another small spot whose name escapes me, right now). Going the other direction it gets pretty rural, so you won't find too much until you get to Orange Hill, etc.
