    Cost of electricity

I have an option to rent a small place near Negril for the winter months but the cost of any power use is not included. Can anyone give me an idea of what this might amount to on a monthly basis? Usual appliances like fridge, tv, ceiling fan, etc and modest use of a/c.
    Thanks

Last month my bill was 13,500 (106 US) for 330KWh. Using the same kind of appliances you describe.

BTW. I paid 128US for 1,400 KWh in Florida. 350% higher in JA.

I'd like to thank past Jamaican governments for selling JPS to foreign interests so we can pay one of the highest rates in the world.

We don't have a/c...run a regular-sized efficient fridge, washer, computer, tv, microwave and a fan regularly...avg around $4500j monthly.

yeah current is ridiculously high.....forget about trying to run any kind of A/C unless you got a lot of money in the budget....
this is a favorite topic for us in Jamaica.....usually gets us to the government topic pretty quickly....lol

usually people say dem pay anywhere from $4,000J to $8,000J for monthly current for a one bedroom cottage/apartment or small house....
mi have heard of people paying $15,000+J's and up....but that for big houses and apartments...
remember wi run our stoves on gas so no current is being used for that...and wi usually don't have electric hot wata heaters
basically wi are paying for a refrigerator, lights, fans, microwave and electronic gadgets like TV and stereo and computers....

wata bill isn't cheap either....usually $2,000J to $4,000+J a month is pretty common.....sometimes mi hear $1,500J a month for wata

Jamaica is still quite a bit cheaper than what we pay up here in Ontario. Imagine trying to heat an entire home up here with electric heat during the winter month$. There have been stories in the paper about people having to turn off the heat in their house and stay warm by using electric blankets. Mostly low income folks and seniors on a fixed income. As Donald Trump would say "SAD".

Up here it depends on what time of day you are using the power. Normal people pay aprox. $15 J per KWh. On top of that there are charges such as debt retirement charge, delivery charge, administative charges, taxes etc... . The bills are very complicated, so many charges!

To make matters worse, if you live in a rural area, like we do it is much higher. Bills of $30,000 J per month are not uncommon.
