    Excursion Suggestions

This year our daughter and her family will be coming to Negril while we are there (They are staying at an AI) and I want to take them out from behind those walls on an excursion. We will have a 7 year old with us, so we don't want to travel too far/long. Would love to hear some ideas for something fun for her that will give her a taste of the real Jamaica.

Mayfield Falls is a real nice 1/2 day trip. Leave around 9 get back around 1. If that's too long, Half Moon Beach is nice and relaxing back there, and you can take a ride out to the Pirate Shack and/or go snorkeling.

~Just my two cents worth - I mostly only comment on places I've seen and or eaten at personally.

Booby Cay Island and snorkeling on the reef. A good Captain will show you where to find a pirate era cannon and anchor! Or Sav la Mar to see the market and where locals buy fresh produce.

Depends on the swimming ability or how active the 7 year old may be...
though it's a longer drive than Mayfield...YS Falls is much easier for children.
Don't add anything else to the YS excursion and your day won't be too long...you'll get to see some great countryside and you'll have time to stop at a couple of places along the way for food etc.

Capt Moses glass bottom boat tour (with snorkeling). Then on to booby cay for grilled lobster! Took my two 20-something daughters and 3 year old grandson on this last December!

How about Barney's Humming Bird Sanctuary on the West End?

I strongly second Bnewb's suggestion of ys falls. Took my 8 year old grandson there last December and he loved it. He's already planning this year's trip. My only advice is get there early because it can get crowded. We didn't eat there. Our driver (Collin Frew-a board sponsor) took us to a terrific roadside place for lunch on the way home.

Thanks everyone - she is a good swimmer and loves the water! Booby Cay is definitely on the agenda with her folks as they are on the north end of the beach and I think she would love a trip to one of the falls. I have only been to Mayfield once and the water was very low, so perhaps YS will be the destination!
