I can't remember the year, I can't even remember the airline I used.
I was sitting at home a few weeks before my trip, watching the Weather Channel.
Oh Lordy, please don't let a hurricane be there at my time.
Dennis the Menace had just "hit" and cleared away about 7 days before my trip.
Whew, that was close!
Now my flight is leaving in the A.M.
Landed in J land, beauuuuutiful!!!
The weather was wonderful the whole 7 days. Had a GREAT time as usual.
The day I was leaving I went to the Hotel lobby to check out.
"How are you getting home" the front desk lady asked.
I made a joke and said "Back stroke" with a smile.
She said "no, I mean the airport is closed!
Huh? What? Wadaya mean???
There is a hurricane coming, didn't you see the news??
I had not watched TV for the last few days.
"It is Emily" she said.
Jeez Louise, What am I to do??
I ran back to my room and turned on the TV.
Yep, she was right, no flights this day.
It was early, like 7:00 A. M.
I called the Airline and got the confirmation.
"NO FLIGHTS"
Well, the lady said, you can go to the Airport and
fight with about 10,000 other mad as can be tourist for seats on a flight leaving whenever
or I can book you now for one next week .
It knew it would be super hot and sweaty and a lot of upset folks, trying to get those few seats.
Uhhhhh, book it Dano!!
I called my boss and told her.
"Yep" she said I see it on the news. Just get back when you can.
So, I made arrangements for a flight 6 days later to go back to the States.
Luckily I was staying at my same Hotel for the last 7 years.
"No problem, stay another week, pay us when you come back next year"
I still had cash, so I smiled.
This Hurricane Emily, (I think) it was just a glancing blow, no real winds or damage.
But, the color of the skies was phenomenal,
light green that turned to pink, then light purple, dark purple, and a
whole bunch of other colors.
A lot of places were shut down for the day.
My friend told me there could still be shops open, but in the Hood.
I went to the neighborhood with her and we stocked up from a few of the small
little shops that don't close until the wind really blows.
I had a room with a fridge and all was fine.
7 extra days in paradise, un-planned!!
I could do that again!!![]()
