    Rum Punch

I was going to post this later in January about a month before my next reach but then I started thinking this might be relevant to other visitors between now and then so here goes; I can usually talk one of the beach bars into selling me a gallon of rum punch for 75 or 80 bucks. Now when you factor about 6 to 8 ounces in a drink when you add ice that works out to about 95 to 120 dollars if purchased one (or 2) at a time. So a savings realized especially when you factor in tips on individual drinks as opposed to one tip for the gallon then it can be well past 120 bucks. Has anyone found a cheaper deal on the beach for a gallon?

Why not just make it yourself?

    Exactly! Easy to make actually.

1 part of sour - Lime juice
2 part of sweet - Sugar syrup or Grace Strawberry syrup
3 part of strong - Wray & Nephew Overproof Rum
4 part of weak - water

Place the above in a shaker, give it a few good shakes and serve over ice.

Maybe because I don't drink rum punch very often...but I've never heard of anyone buying by the gallon...LOVE IT!

I guess it depends on who makes it, as to the cost. Some establishments make it very simply with overproof & syrup, others add juices and a blend of nice rums. I tend to like the real juices and a bit of a better rum rather than overproof.

I do love the gallon idea though.

Only someone from Minnesota would spend 80 dollars a gallon for something you could make for 10-20. Silly gophers!

I guess it depends on your length of stay. Too short or too long and it's not worth while. I go to Jamaica to be on vacation. Don't mind doing most things by myself so I like the DIY but as some point I just chalk my troubles up to being on vacation and don't bother. To each their own I guess! I'd probably rather buy the rum and Juices as needed at the rate I drink the punch, but I'm just me... with a group, a gallon might not last long!

We do equal parts coconut rum, dark rum, OJ, Pineapple juice, with a splash of lime juice and grenadine. Delicious, and you only need a couple to be feeling alright (~};-
