    Banana Shout?

We’re looking for a west end location in May. We’re aware of Banana Shout’s history but seem to recall some negative posts about the new owners a couple seasons back. Does anyone have any current info about Banana Shout?

We were at Catcha last year, right next door. I remember hearing dogs constantly, and a damn rooster, but can't be sure the rooster was theirs. One downfall is the noise from Ricks next door.

I don’t mind roosters but . . . let’s just say Rick’s does make up the bulk of the plot in “Banana Shout”. You make an excellent point.

I haven’t stayed at BS but have stayed at Catcha a few times, which is right next door. Regarding Ricks, in that area, u are forced to listen to the band every day during their late afternoon sunset parties. And hear the screaming of the crowd watching the cliff divers. But it’s fine. I mean, it really isn’t that big a deal unless u just don’t want to see or hear any of that stuff at all.

It is "Nick's" that does make up much of the Banana Shout novel. After reading Mark's initial manuscript, I told him he had to change the characters names as it was a fictional account, based on real life experiences. I said no publisher would touch it as is with real names in the story.

When he first sent it to the publisher, the publisher freaked out after doing some fact checking. So we did a global "search and replace" on the manuscript and changed character names. I personally thought Nick for Rick was hilarious! Mark then did some rewrites and made composite characters (a single character based on several real people) and the publisher said that the book was now "libel" free...

Anyone who hasnt read it should, it is a great beach book!!!

I think I might have a copy of Banana Shout II sitting around on a CD somewhere.... another great story but that one took place mainly in the Michigan/Ohio area of the USA...

Rob's spot on the money. It's a very good read. You get a very good sense of what Negril was like in it's infancy. Definitely a place I'd like to time travel to.

With no AC in May it might be a lil tough to sleep at night. December no issue, May I personally would not do it.

we do Catcha every year. I like to watch the ricks people come in and listen to the music on the Catermerans. I just finished reading Banana Shout the Novel. I could stay there. there is no pool for hot afternoons though.

I would look into Idle Awhile Cliffs or Somewhere West.
