    Bad Parents

Please don't look down on our parenting, but how strict are the local bars with serving drinks. We will be going to Negril with 17.5 and 18 year old boys and wondering if they will be served or have problems getting a drink. We are staying at Treehouse and really don't care if the boys have a little to drink walking the beach.

I think you are very prudent and real. I do think scant information … really? Young men having a few drinks or other or none. I think they will find a way if they are so inclined.

I myself am not feeling good about it … nothing like competent adult supervision 19 plus.

They can join the service and die for their country at 18 and vote for a president. I don't have a problem with them having a drink at the same age.

I stand corrected … 18 is the age. If they want to hang close, I'll buy the 6 or 12 pack. Mother of 24 year old who has gone the distance and sure does not want to revisit that age in a foreign country. I spoke my piece and peace to all … 2018 just about here.

They'll be fine. Give them unrealistically low drink limits like 1 or 2. They'll stretch it and have 4 or 5. Which is where you really want them to stop. Where I come from if they are 17.5 and 18, they've been drinking for awhile now already. Watch them the first couple days, give them a chance to earn your trust by responding to the responsibility you have given them.

They will be served at most places along the beach or in the west end.but you know your kids best. I have one who is good with a couple of beers on the beach in the daytime playing a little football or volleyball, I have another who could disappear if given enough rope. Parented the same, two different boys. Give them parameters you can live with, take them out with you at night. Long hot days make for early nights, enjoy and have fun. The treehouse is a great safe property! Enjoy.

When they are walking the beach, don't let them have any money.

Mjc...as already said...the legal drinking age is 18 in Jamaica.
Your young men will not need to carry ID or have any issues unless they go into a major night club or major event where ID is required...but...only one might have a problem getting in as he's technically under age.
