At JFK, arriving from Barcelona, on the 1st there were kiosks that scanned your passport, surveyed the customs questions and took a face scan. Fast, fast, fast.
I departed and returned to JFK the first time I went to Jamaica in 1984. A knucklehead high schooler on his senior trip didn't hide his baggie very well and was diverted for a cavity check. The agent we encountered was mystified by my rolled up hammock. "How will you hang it?" he asked. "Tie it between two trees" I replied. "Trees?" he asked bewildered. As my recent approach to JFK ended, I noticed that there weren't many yards with trees. Sad.
