I don't find small Ja bills hard to come by - but do I keep track of them to make sure I always have some -
* at stores I usually pay with $1000, even if its a small purchase, to get the change.
* at the ATM, I withdraw $xx,900.00, as the 900 comes as 1) 500 + 4) 100's. My bank does not charge fees (and I avoid Scotia because of their $3 fee - plus you can only withdraw $15k jmd there) so I can split my withdrawal into a couple transactions, each with the 900 change coming to me.
