    Day 4

Whose idea was it to book a tour for 8:30 a.m... That’s what I want to know. Next time I come to JA, I'm not planning anything....nothing. Especially nothing in the morning. Not one day did I get to relax and take it leisurely. lol

I Get up extra early cause I need time to drink my coffee on my cliff and hang out with my crab friends. It’s a gorgeous morning, wish I could just hang out here to be honest. Head up to the front, cause we wouldn’t want to miss our ride. Surprise they’re not there at 8:30 lol. Looks like we are the last ones to be picked up because the van is full. I luck out...get to sit shotgun. Nice. The driver is a young guy…forget his name but he was a doll. Mostly just talked to him on the ride up to the Black River. I was happy to help him keep watch for pot-holes, and he answered all my questions, made me laugh, and wasn’t half bad to look at. So far this excursion is getting 4 stars!!! Lol

The drive was cool…I’ve found that I thoroughly enjoy car rides in Jamaica….beautiful country…lots to look at…the driving itself is fast*** I love that. Was interesting to drive through some of Sav La Mar, different feel than touristy negril…the spot where Peter Tosh’s memorial is…very cool. Pics not so good, once again. Saw something that made me LMAO….there were two guys driving your standard JA white hatchback. They were moving a large headboard….it was on top of the car, and each guy had one arm out the window holding onto it. LOL I’m thinking Holy Sh*t….hope they’re not moving the whole bed like this piece by piece, let alone a whole room/house. Gotta do what ya gotta do I guess.

We unload from the van and have time to walk around the grounds before getting on the boat. There is a man with a craft stand. I spent a few minutes admiring his things before it was time to head out on the river. A big pontoon boat awaits us…we have a seat on the back edge.

Off we go. Guides name is Nico…he has his routine down. He’s funny, and also not bad on the eyes …which I’m finding out is pretty normal around here. Did I mention how much I’m enjoying Jamaica? lol He tours us around pointing out mangroves, and birds, crab traps, and would you believe me if I tell you… he is a crocodile whisperer? No really, he would call them and they would come. Lol At one point this big ass croc came swimming up to the boat. Forgot his name…they all had names. Nico would throw some meat in the water and as soon as the croc snapped down on the meat, he would grab it by the leg and pull over to the boat so we could “pet” it. I asked him if he was scared to fall in the water…and he said “Yeah mon…I can’t swim!” This still has me puzzled...but hey, Dude get's a A+ for going the extra milelol

We saw a little old man, fishing in his canoe carved from a tree trunk. He was awesome. Somewhere along the way my camera gave out on me…and my friends battery was starting to die. Hailey has managed to make friends with a couple guys on the boat who seem more than happy to take pics for us on the tour…lol. I’m just gonna leave it at that.

All in all, River was pretty cool, but honestly, I’m from Texas, family in East TX and Lousiana….I’ve been in plenty of swamps, seen quite a few gators and mangroves. Not to mention I actually live on a river. lol While I see how this would be REALLY cool for someone else…I personally could have skipped the Black River...and moved right along to the Falls…

After our boat ride we had lunch on a huge covered patio. Jerk Pork, Rice&beans, and fresh veggies. The pork was fantastic. There was a family there who had brought along their little girl, who entertained us all during our tour of the Black River. We noticed that she was not the least bit interested in eating the meal that was provided. Being a mom, I know how frustrating that can be so I convinced my friend to hand over her nutri-grain bar she’d packed. Put it to better use. Before we left, I paid another visit to the man out front selling his crafts. I got a black hand carved wood crocodile for my son, and a carved wooden Rasta turtle for my daughter. Both will be treasured for a long time to come.
