Amazing news! The novel is back!

I just heard from Eri Conklin, Mark"s daughter, that Banana Shout is back! Yes! Banana Shout is back! We are so excited to have it back for a whole new generation of fans to enjoy in an ebook Kindle format. Here is a little information from her:

Banana Shout An Adventure in Negril, Jamaica, by Mark Conklin.

As the Vietnam War raged, college campuses were protesting all around the U.S. At the same time, the Caribbean island of Jamaica was transitioning to political independence from Britain. During this time, the main character, Tavo Gripps challenges the status quo to seek a purposeful life. As a draft dodger, he ends up on the shores of Jamaica. The character’s life is transformed through rich cultural exchanges and unique experiences such as hitchhiking to Key West with two unfiltered, confederate women, forming a friendship with an enlightened Rastafarian, sexual intrigue with a nudist practicing abstinence, and being mixed up with marijuana smugglers, the DEA, and a displaced hippie culture.

Banana Shout. An Adventure in Negril, Jamaica excerpt from―Chapter 4
Tavo’s mood elevated with each passing day at sea. The endless expanse of azure sky dotted with slow-floating wisps of cumulus clouds mirrored by the gentle rolling ocean gradually faded into starlit nights. He felt as if time had stopped and he could reach up and touch the stars. He’d never known such peace before, especially those nights, when shooting stars showered the heavens and the seas became as calm as bathtub water. And he didn’t feel as alone anymore; he was at one with the planet, though he had not seen land for days. Even Striker’s earthquake snores, breaking the quiet nights, didn’t bother him. He was on an adventure, a challenge. Most of all, he felt hope for a new day rising in his chest, and his spirits soared.

Mark Conklin grew up in Detroit, Michigan. He held a Masters degree in Industrial Psychology. In 1973, he and his wife, Ilene, moved to Negril, Jamaica, then, a quaint village. Mark and Ilene owned Banana Shout Resort, next to the world famous Rick’s CafĂ© in Negril, Jamaica. Mark Conklin passed away in 2011 in Sarasota, Florida. Mark’s daughter, Eri Conklin, finalized the revised edition as a tribute to Mark Conklin, in honor of his legacy.

    Kimbob,

Where did Tavo depart (well, as far he remembers) from? The cover picture isn't Negril... but looking to change that on a future release.

If there is enough interest, there will be a paperback printing!

great news...when the previous owners took ownership, the entire ambience changed....not for the better...we were used to the serenity of the place; not what became a seemingly never ending visit of friends.......Best of Luck
