Stayed there last nov. if the price is good its tough to beat, food and drinks were good, and cant beat the location.
Trip #59 most of February
If you need all inclusive on the beach Grand Pineapple is the best choice!
I agree..If you can catch a good deal, it's a great little All Inclusive..Food is good, Staff is excellent. Rooms are clean, One of my best stays was at the Grand Pineapple.
I’m a big fan of the Grand Pineapple. I was just there last week! I’ve been there twice and enjoyed both stays. The grounds are beautiful with Peacocks strutting around, the location is central, the food is REALLY good. The drinks are delicious. The amazing staff is what keeps me coming back. They’re so great! You feel like family when you’re there.
The only downside is that the bar closes at midnight, everything shuts down and then it’s quiet as a mouse… so there isn’t much of a real “nightlife” at the Grand Pineapple. It’s more of a chill out resort. You’re right next to Alfreds if you want to go out later than that though. It’s also not very luxurious. It’s colorful and it’s unique. If this is your first trip to Negril, I highly recommend GP.
If you can get a good deal, jump on it. You’re not going to find a better AI in this price range on the beach strip.![]()
I wrote a lot about my first stay at the Grand Pineapple and posted pictures. You can see it here: http://twoshotsofrum.blogspot.com/

At the risk of being verbose...(moi?)....here is my TR from June 2009:
Perhaps the best way to begin this review is to list those travelers who wouldn't be happy at GP. If your holiday requires any of the following, you will not be happy: organized beach/pool activities, a la carte dining, room service, an expansive beach, a disco, nighttime entertainment, more than one bar, more than one pool, a pool with a swim-up bar, a mini-bar in-room, PPV movies, complete absence of beach vendors, motorized watersports, premium alcohol, air-conditioned bar or restaurant, or a kid's club.
That being said, I had an absolutely perfect time at Grand Pineapple Negril during my three night stay, and my honest review of the property is as follows:
Rooms- There are two major categories of rooms...those on the beach side and those across the street(garden rooms). Within each category lies the room choices, either manor rooms on the second floor of the main building on each side or cottage rooms, four to a building. For me, upgrading to the beach cottage room was a no-brainer as it only required a $10 surcharge per night. Some of the previous reviews mentioned the garden rooms as more desirable due to the "noise" from Alfred's next door. Alfred's has live reggae shows on the beach Sunday, Tuesday and Friday. Given the lack of late night entertainment at GP, one would think that the opportunity to enjoy good reggae on the beach with reasonably priced drinks and a very irie vibe would be met with great enthusiasm. I could barely hear any noise from the party in my room, only the distant thumping of the bass. If you have a room on the boundary of Alfred's perhaps the music might disturb you. Or it could lull you to sleep. But, it seems to be an overblown issue.
The room is basic motel issue, with brightly painted walls, a small closet without a door, a desk/dresser combo and a 19 inch CRT television. The bathroom was dated and a bit worn around the edges, but serviceable nonetheless. The beds were a little too soft for my liking, but fine anyway. The best part of the room is the balcony/patio. The air-conditioner happily kept my room quite cold. The maid service was very efficient with the room being made-up no later than 11am each day and she did a fine job on it. And, she steadfastly refused a tip. Another guest had the same experience with his maid.
Food-There is only one restaurant, and it is connected to the one bar. Both are open to the breeze and the restaurant has ceiling fans as well. All meals are buffet style.
Breakfast-Bacon, sausage, rolls, bagels, toast, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, omelettes, and potatoes round out the every-morning choices and there is something hot that changes daily as well. One morning it was "pepper steak" which was surprisingly good. You shouldn't leave hungry.
Lunch-Different offerings everyday. The lunches on Thursday and Saturday were very good, but Friday's lunch was only so-so, with the best part being an egg salad sandwich. Many hot items, and they will grill up a burger with fries if asked. Hard to leave hungry.
Dinner-A different theme dinner every night keeps the evening meals enjoyable. Sunday-International, Monday-Oriental, Tuesday-Italian, Wednesday-BBQ Beach Party, Thursday-Jamaican, Friday-Gala, Saturday-Mexican. There is live entertainment during dinner on Monday-Wednesday and Saturday. I stayed Wednesday thru Saturday. My favorite was Jamaican night. Fabulous lamb in curry, jerk pork, jerk chicken, callaloo, escovitch fish and rice and peas. The beach party was fun, but the music ended at 9pm sharp. The ribs were quite good. The gala night was my least favorite although I did get to have some fresh snapper jaw meat, which was good. If you can't find something you like during each dinner, I would be very surprised. The food was always fresh, hot and plentiful.
Service-The service was great at every meal, with drinks quickly served and water replenished as needed.
Bar-The bartenders are what make the bar a fun spot to hang at. No seating at the bar itself, but plenty of seating in the room. A pool table and table tennis are present as well. The only premium liquor was Appleton Special and Tia Maria. It seems the premium liquor option may vary, so YMMV as well. The frozen drinks were very good, and they are happy to make any fruit or fruit combo frozen daiquiri you could want. My favorite was the papaya. The Dirty Banana was great too. The only down-side is that it closes at midnight, with no option for continuing consuming unless you BYO or leave the property. A shout out to Andrew, Robert and Glovia who were exceptional in their roles as bartender.
Beach-Probably the best beach on this part of 7 Mile Beach. Great sand, clean water, plentiful chairs and towels and a potentially spectacular sunset. The beach is cleaned every morning. The only downside is the ever-present beach vendors, hawking mostly cannabis and cocaine. If you don't want to deal, just tell them you have everything you need and keep walking. After the second day, they will remember you and leave you alone. No one who is not a hotel guest is allowed on the property.
Pool-On the garden side, I never made it over.
Grounds-Lush and very well maintained. The buildings are all freshly painted, inside and out, and crews were constantly maintaining the exterior of the buildings and the grounds.
Staff-The best part of the hotel. By day 2, everyone knows your name, including security and greets you warmly by name. Everyone serves with a smile, is happy to help and there is a real sense of teamwork among the employees. Mr. Junior Gordon is a very nice fellow and does a fine job overseeing the property.
Overall impression-This is a small property with basic rooms and a great staff. Located on a prime section of beach with great sunsets. Very reasonable rates and good food make the experience complete. I have stayed at RIU Negril, Sunset at the Palms Negril, and Couples Negril and would not hesitate to return to Grand Pineapple, knowing that it a completely different experience from the big AI's with great value to be had. Feel free to ask me any questions on this property or Negril in general.

Unless you need a luxury resort with lots of amenities, Grand Pineapple is a great choice. They only have 65 rooms and they do book up way in advance. I stayed there for the first time in Feb 2011, and it was my 20th trip to Negril. I booked my 2012 trip while I was still at GP. The staff is wonderful and very friendly. The location is excellent and the experience was above average, and I was traveling alone. I was lucky enough to meet 7 other people and we all will be returning to spend our next vacation together at Grand Pineapple in 2012. I really loved the trip and it was one of the best times I ever had in Negril. If you stay across the road, don't even worry about crossing the road. They have 24/7 crossing guards to stop the traffic so you can cross safely. Go for it!
Thanks so much for all the replies. We've read that they only have rooms with two double beds, is that true? No king or queen beds???
