    Cat in the Hat Man

My husband and I have been traveling to Jamaica for the past 25 years, mainly to Negril. We've seen a lot of changes over the years but also love the comfort of seeing some things that remain the same. For many years there used to be a man who walked Negril Beach hawking things like fruit, cigarettes, etc. For years he wore a red and white hat such as what Dr. Seuss' Cat in the Hat wore. We loved this guy. You could always hear him before you saw him. We always referred to him as the "Cat in the Hat' man. Does anybody remember seeing him over the years and has anybody seen him recently? Just curious. Thanks.

He is still there in March, the hardest working man on the beach, up and down the entire length several times a day, and not at a leisurely pace. He, along with Herman, AKA Busta One Foot, William the blind guy, Norman, Clive, etc. all are what makes the Negril beach special. CEEEEEGARETTE guy wasn't wearing the Cat in the Hat deco this year, he had something new. I saw one of the tourists give him a Leprechaun hat right before St. Patty's Day and he wore it all day that day. I admire all the folks that work so hard to make a living there.

Every time he sees me I get a look like "aren't you going to buy cigs today" even though I don't smoke and he's been seeing me for 20 years or more.
