    Bicycle

Thought about bringing a bike but decided to rent one for a week. Best place? Anyone know approximate cost?

Oakmonter...there's a bicycle rental place called Conrods in front of the Golden Sunset hotel on the beach road & I think Tykes in the West End at Seastar Lane still rents a few.
I've never rented a bike here... but if I remember correctly it was around $10-20us a day. If someone has rented before...please correct me if I'm wrong.

Sunday morning bike rides on the West End are magical, way fewer cars and screaming motorcycles. We used to get them from Kool Browns and head out past the lighthouse.

    Re: Bicycle

True I'm finding riding a bike to be risky business, between the bad roads, crazy drivers, dogs, goats, etc etc. And I have a successful history of riding in crowded urban areas e.g. New York, Boston, Toronto, Istanbul, etc (that bike has been all over). Still I prefer biking over the alternatives. Driving here is expensive and stressful. And dealing with Jamaican taxi drivers is also stressful. Biking is good. And good for the planet too.

I had some great rides in Black River on quiet roads. Sunday mornings were magical with every house tuned to the same church music. Now Negril might be a different story with the chaotic roads, and hot for trail riding.

only way to travel, slower you go, more you see. find a bike you can depend on and try to rent it for the whole stay, you will get a better rate and find yourself more motivated to explore. YoEdWest
