    Dream weekend ??

had my nephew over and showed him a video from the dream weekend this year.
quite a scene at sandals . take a look. anyway he now wants to make plans to go next year.
he's 25. i know i would not fit in to the crowd but would be a blast watching from a bit of a distance. anyone on the board that has partaken of the activities care to offer any info in regards to safety .

    Re: Dream weekend ??

I've been a number of times and only had two minor experiences where my safety was at risk at all.
The first was having items taken from my purse while at the bar alone. It happened very quickly, a man grabbed my bag and opened it (it only had a magnetic snap) and grabbed what they could while shoving me to the ground. Luckily I had quick reflexes and grabbed my bag back so they didn't get much at all. I immediately went to the security, they were maybe 25ft away and they just shrugged, said they didn't see and there were too many people to do anything.
Second was involving transportation to and from a party, motorcycles are not safe on wet roads.

If he wants to go, he should be fine as long as he has some experience in Jamaica and stays aware. Safety advice for Dream is pretty standard, don't go alone, try to stick with your group as much as possible, don't drink too much, don't take drinks or drugs from strangers, avoid taking bike taxis or at least be very choosy with them (if they're smoking or drinking, move on!). Any large gathering where individuals may be vulnerable will always attract a certain type that will try to take advantage but I wouldn't say its more of a concern there than anywhere else. I did not go this year but was around during that time and had friends that went. Due to the SOE there was heightened security and it was not as busy as usual, if the SOE continues to that time next year I imagine it would be the same.

Feel free to ask me anything else about it!

    Re: Dream weekend ??

mi have been in town for the last 6 Dream Weekends/Weeks...….
3 years ago was the busiest one before they hiked the ticket prices....
it's a spring break for adults...….majority of the people are Jamaican and 25 - 45 years old....
you need to book now if you want a shot at a place on the beach road where the action is....

it's a Hedonistic experience like none other...….lost of flesh shown at the parties
it's not an orgy so to speak....as many are there to party and not hookup......though mi imagine some do
mi think the two best parties are the White Party which is one of the first ones and absolutely packed...…
and the other great party which is the most expensive one at Kool Runnings Water Park.....

trying to navigate from the roundabout to like Coco La Palm is a challenge as it's packed with cars and people from 4PM on...
walking or bicycling then are your best bets.....and look out for those crazy motorcycle drivers...….dem dangerous...
when the last party gets out on the beach it gets really crazy with all the partiers heading back to their hotels......…

mi like hanging outside the venues......especially like the White Party.....and people watch....
mi must have seen a 100 Miss Jamaica's all within a couple hours time...…..true

Dream Week goers usually travel in packs......like anywhere from 2 or 3 to maybe 30 in a group...….yah mon
and der much more than 2 people to a room during Dream Weekend...….lol

if you see an old fat American hanging outside of the White Party this summer.....it probably mi...….lol

Yeah, not that big of a deal haha could have happened at a party anywhere in the world.
I wouldn't base suggesting he not go on videos of the event, more if he and friends have enough sense to safely handle a large scale party (if they've never been to one before). I've been to some parties in Negril unrelated to Dream that were just as, if not more, busy and wild than some of the Dream parties. They really make the most of marketing it, most of the videos are filmed to make it look as outrageous and busy as possible. Most of the venues are quite large, the crowd spreads out and they end up with slightly slower areas that they don't tend to show in videos. An alternative could be only going to a few parties instead of the whole thing. Doing it all is pretty exhausting anyways, he might need a vacation afterwards!

The General Week Pass for 2018 was $345 with the Early Bird Purchase of $295.....
they have a VIP Pass too that was like $500+...…..includes food etc versus just drinks

I personally don't buy the pass as going to all the events would be a killer plus be very expensive....
not only do you have to pay for a pass or ticket...…..but you need the outfits to go to each party...
so overall it can be quite an investment...…you would be surprised how many Jamaicans do the whole week
Jamaicans save up all year to go to Dream Week...….it's their big vacation from urban life like in Kingston....

the White/DayDream Party ticket was like $8,000J...….and the Wet & Wild at Kool Runnings was like around $12,000J
around $8,000J is the going ticket price for a party last year...….
previous years it was $6,000J....personally mi think the promoters are getting too greedy these days

below was the lineup for 2018 which gives you an idea of the parties they have...….
mi always do the Concert as it's the cheapest party at $3,500J...…
unfortunately they didn't have the concert in 2019 because of the shooting incident the year before in 2018

there are big parties prior to Dream Week and also a few Parties after Dream Week
mi bet der a big party on August 1st this year......that's a national holiday
