If you have any lust for life why would you take the chance? I am 45 and in great shape, great health. I have a great job, house, money, etc. I cancelled our annual trip to Florida this month (was there in January) and didn't think twice about it. Why risk it? Even if you are in a "low risk" category have you seen what has happened to perfectly normal people? No way I can risk that for my family, all because I want to drink Red Stripes, Appleton rum, and listen to reggae muzik on the beach. Like texting and driving--it can wait.

While very true...it's a bit of a moot point now...since Jamaica has not allowed inbound travel to the country since Mar.23rd.

    Stay safe Everyone!!

I can't help but wonder just when Jamaica will open up and let travelers from the US back into the country? I think it will be a long time before testing in this country will get around to identifying who actually has the virus. The Jamaican Government is rightfully worried about re-igniting a viral outbreak. I personally don't see tourism opening back up until as late as the end of July. What do you think?

    Just wondering.

Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett says bookings are "strong" for May and June. Since there is a ban on incoming passenger flights until April 18th which will be reviewed and possibly extended for an additional 14 days, the probability for May tourism visits look bleak.

And until the virus has begun to be contained and the devastation it is causing subsides, there will be a mandatory 14 day quarantine for arriving passengers. This makes the chances for a May start up seem highly unlikely.

One possible solution for an early start up (June?) would be for the airlines to go beyond the current temperature testing and actually test each passenger using the new faster (5 minutes or less) COVID testing methods. Only negative passengers would be allowed to board. This is far from a perfect solution but it would be an investment to protect their own staff as well the passengers and the arrival country.

Unless measures like that are taken, there is no real way to even make a guess on when tourism on any kind of level as in the past will return. The self quarantining of 14 days would make for a lousy vacation and getting infected on the plane or airport sucks even more. There are no easy answers.

Jamaica is looking hard for the some 5000 passengers who came in between March 18th and the 23rd. They should all be self quarantining and are the biggest current threat to the spread of the virus in Jamaica.

If anyone knows anyone who did arrive during those dates, please have them report. They will be facing stiff penalties when they try to leave the island if not...

May or June? Who wants to get on an airplane much less a cruise ship then? In Wisconsin they are predicting the peak cases to be from April 23 to May 23, and Wisconsin has been on lockdown for weeks now. What about the states that were late to the party? October or November seems much more possible. I'll take a ventilator in Wisconsin over a ventilator in Jamaica any day.

TuffGong... I completely agree. Ja is not going through all these steps , and precautions, just to turn around and swiftly let tourists back in, anytime soon. My group, is now contemplating Thanksgiving, but I am even some what doubtful of that . Taking it day to day....

I think everyone agrees that May and June travel isn't going to be happening...except our current Minister of Tourism here in Jamaica🙄
Not travelling by November is a little disconcerting though...to me this says the world hasn't handled this pandemic correctly... ☹️
