I have to disagree with this suggestion Lovely and the reason being is that your idea of banning all locals seems to me to be unfair and makes them seem outcasts and unwanted like they are all bad and I think that creates even more amniosity.Originally Posted by Lovely

When I travel to Jamaica I have extended family living there who are very good to myself and my family and many times we will go to pick them up in a bus and bring them back to Negril for a long weekend and pay to have them stay with us as a little holiday and a thankyou to them before we all go to stay at their homes.
No local Jamaican who has ever come to stay with me has ever stolen anything or caused any problems at all not a single one.
So I do not think banning all Jamaicans from hotels in their country is the answer I think it is very unfair.
I realise there are thiefs but I have stayed in places worldwide where tourists thief from each other too.
This "half" of a story we were told later emerged that there were preventative measures which could have possibly stopped this robbery from happening.A lot of things could have stopped it

I have heard of a couple of thefts down there though , perhaps some are in the hotel section and the lock situation is worse there?
Either way I am saddened to hear that because of lack of using common sense that it has made someone think along the lines of lets ban all Jamaicans.
What next? Ban them from the beach? Ban them from the concerts? From the area?
If someone does not want to be around Jamaicans they could always not choose to go to Jamaica or stay at the ultru secluded all inclusives where you would only see Jamaicans in a work setting.
As a mother of a child who has Jamaican roots and my direct family ~ Husband and all of my inlaws all being either Locals or from Jamaican background.If a hotel in Jamaica said only I was welcome due to where I was born or colour of skin or whatever else they wished to base it on.There is no way I would even go near a place like that.I find something very wrong with the picture of banning a countries own people from facilities on offer there.
There are thiefs and drugs in my own country but I do not expect to be banned from using local hotels and spas and restaurants because of them as I am not one.What would you say if your country started banning you from places? How would you feel?
It reminds me of a story I was once told about an excellent theme park in a place full of LOCAL children, It was a deprived area and was priced so high that all of the local children could only peep through the bars at all of the tourist children having fun.Most were hungry and not clothed too well but the owner got his land cheap and he was in it for the profit.They did not ban all locals but it was priced so high that none of them could afford it and it saddened me to think that people can knowingly hurt others like this and this is why I regularly do volunteer or charity work for children or LOCALS put in these situations.A simple solution could have been to have a free or very cheap day once every month for local people.
Kool runnings waterpark in Negril often has days where a lot of Locals come and enjoy the facilities.I do not know what they are charged but I have seen Jamaicans coming in big buses from Kingston and I enjoyed watching the children win more free tickets on stage in a dancing competition for the next time they came to visit.
I spent the day in the waterpark with bus loads of people from Kingston and I also stayed at a Breezes hotel that allowed locals to purchase weekend passes at a reduced price.That too was absolutely jam packed with Jamaicans and mostly from Kingston.
I was not robbed, I was not hurt and I chatted and enjoyed the fun along with the rest of them.
So I do not know what the answer is but BAN ALL JAMAICANS is a pretty low answer to me,That is a direct insult to Jamaicans and I cannot explain how it feels to be stood with a group of my own blood and family and me be welcome somewhere and they not and there is a contract put in front of me to sign explaining that I will be welcome but they will not.Would I sign? Yes ~ but not my name
It is not fair to say ban every single Jamaican because one woman had a local staying over -forgot to lock the door and got robbed.No one has even had a flicker of a thought that there could be tourists staying there who saw an opportunity and were not the most perfect of people and just took the opportunity to steal?It happens and a lot.While this story does sound like the Jamaican was possibly involved he could also have been very mad as he was not involved and really wanted his stuff back and could not afford to replace it.But I guess nobody has even given that a thought just lets ban them all.
