Jamaica has over a 60% recovery rate from the COVID-19 virus and 10 recorded deaths since March. As a country, we would like to keep it under control.
The World Travel and Tourism Council has endorsed the COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols designed for Jamaica by the Ministry of Tourism. It is 110 pages covering all aspects of the industry, from hotels to attractions to watersports. It will be released today.
From the Observer:
“The protocols developed by the ministry have been globally recognised as being a leader in tourism COVID-19 management arrangements, and shows that when fully complied with will make Jamaica among the most COVID-19-resilient destinations in the world,” a beaming Bartlett told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.
These protocols are meant to protect the local population as well as our visitors from contracting COVID-19. Spending thousands of dollars on a vacation would be a terrible way to get the virus. These protocols are in place to protect you. To that extent, PM Holness further clarified the position in proper hygiene, the wearing of masks and observing social distancing:
"Holness also explained that tourists will be treated similarly, and if they are cleared by screening they may proceed to their hotel. They will not be encouraged to move about the local population without observing the safety and hygiene protocols. He also said that during the period June 15 to 30 it would be best to encourage tourists to stay in the hotels."

Jamaica welcomes you but wants to make sure that you remain healthy and safe while visiting our island. This is the new reality that we are all living in. We want you to remain COVID-19 free so that you will be able live a long life and return one day. And as the circumstances change when new information becomes available the protocols will change. The protocols will be reviewed and possibly be changed July 1st.
We will continue to update you here on Negril.com.
