Well, see you in a couple of years, maybe. Personally, I'm figuring that we'll only go to places where we can feel safe. That rules out places that are taking no precautions.
Masks are optional on the beach, except for kids who are not supposed to wear them on the beach at all. And obviously while eating and drinking a mask is not used.
In confined areas, areas where others are around, the best protection from COVID is a mask thus the requirement to wear them. You are not just protecting yourself but caring about the lives of others. It should be a sense of duty to your fellow humans.
On day three, the total Sangster airport time was an hour and a half for the guest at White Sands. Just as 9/11 increased the airport times worldwide, COVID has done the same.
And there is talk about making the airports the perfect place to detect new, future viruses and illnesses. New testings methods would change an airport from a spreader of disease to a detector of disease.
The time of previous years you speak of may end up being just that - "previous years". 9/11 permanently changed air travel. Before 9/11 you could use a driver's license to enter Jamaica from the States.
Those days will never happen again and we have all accepted it.
Even Antigua has nearly identical requirements, which they just posted on their website:
Face masks must be worn at all ports of entry and in public spaces from the moment of disembarkation from the plane. Failure to do so could result in a fine of up to $5,000 and/or imprisonment for up to six months.
Health screenings and temperature checks will be conducted at each point of entry. Officials will also collect a self-reported traveler accommodation form from each passenger.
Arriving passengers may undergo nasal swabbing for rapid antigen tests.
Hand washing and sanitization stations will be available in many public spaces.
Customs and ground transportation will handle traveler luggage as little as possible.
All people must abide by social distancing guidelines of six feet or more.
You will not need to present a negative COVID-19 test before arrival, but having one can help you bypass some of the screening protocols on the ground.
Every incoming traveler will be tested for COVID-19. The test will take 15 minutes to complete, and results will be released within 48 hours, according to Antigua’s travel advisory website. Travelers will have to pay for the test, which costs $100 per person.
There are additional requirements which are still being finalized but Antigua is not an exception. Other Caribbean islands are following Jamaica's lead as well. MissNegril, if you want to travel, this is the new normal, like it or not.
Negril.com - For the vacation that never ends!
Florida Keys now require wearing a mask until June 2021 or face a $500 fine .............. guess you will not be going there either

I am coming soon - I see this as a "minor inconvenience" - to be have the experience of Jamaica. My feeling is that we should venture out and create a wonderful life - not living in fear.
Rob,

If the results will be released within 48 hours, what are people supposed to do while they are waiting for their results? Are they stuck at the airport for up to 48 hours? I'm guessing they don't want you to go outside of the airport if you have it.
Thanks Rob. I was wondering if Jamaica was doing those same steps.
