    ummmmmmmmmmm
for moi, this is an *interesting* deja vu type thread (i.e., regarding Spam)

    it was JUST the other-day,
    i email-ed my Jamaica/Lucea-mentor
    that i was soon-come-ing down

i asked Ja-mentor, if they wanted me to bring them any Spam

here's their redacted email response (below):::

    so,
    they WANT Spam, fi sure

    why..??.. they want it
why..??.. i offered to bring some

    'cause this past-Summer,
while they were in USofA working on their MastersDegree
    ..they took-back to-Jamaica a bunch of Spam

    i laugh-ed
    and asked '.Why..??..'

dem-SAY:::>> '..USofA Spam tastes better .... it has a higher salt content, than what is offered/for-sale in Jamaica..'

    p.s... for-YEARS, i've offer-ed to bring-down stuff
    for my Ja-mentor

    each-time dem-SAY::>> "..Nope.... don't need/want nutin.."

THIS is the FIRST-time they've said '..YES..' (with enthusiasm)

If there is a demand, I would think Jamaicans would have figured out how to satisfy it....SPAM isn't too hard a recipe to decipher(pork shoulder and ham) and made with JA piggies might even be palatable....

    THAT is a fantastic *theory*

    HOWEVER,
    in my limited Ja-experiences
of shopping & window-shopping around the island
    and
notice-ing all those China-man shops, stores, etc.,
    and
read-ing the tags & labels on consumer goods
    and
hearing & reading all the chat encourage-ing folks to ".Buy Jamaican."
    it *seems* to my feeble-mind & pea-brain
that your theory is just a theory (unfortunately)

    for example,
    a significant number of staples & high-demand-ed thing-ys
    come from someplace else

    sugar ---- from Trinidad
    bottled water --- from Trinidad
    mariners (aka '.wife-beater.' tee-shirts) --- from China
produce ---- from other-places, NOT Jamaica
    chicken meat ---- from USA

BUT that is a great *theory*
