Are category 2 travellers allowed to utilize route taxis?
Are category 2 travellers allowed to utilize route taxis?
All visitors to the island staying in the Resilient Corridor must travel to and from the attractions, restaurants, etc on transportation licensed under the Tourist Board Act. This doesn't include route taxis.
If you are staying in a non Resilient Corridor property and did your 14 day quarantine then you are obviously here for much longer than the average visitor and considered temporarily as part of the community.
You would then be allowed to use the locals route taxi system. I HIGHLY SUGGEST AGAINST THIS as they don't follow the same protocols as the JTB Covid Certified transportation.
There is absolutely zero possibility for social distancing, the windows don't always function properly and you can't forget the crying and screaming babies with worried parents often heading to a clinic or hospital. Hundreds of different people per day will be in and out of that taxi, between cleanings.
During a pandemic, this is probably not the smartest move you could make.

So a red plate taxi is OK to ride?
No, not every red plate vehicle, but a red plate that is JTB certified is.... ALL route taxis are red plates but are not presently available for our visitors. Look for a JUTA, JCal or Maxi driver to be sure.
If there are passengers already in the car, it is probably the locals route taxi which you should not take.
If wording on the car says Route Taxi, do not take.
And under no circumstances take a white plated vehicle. Everyone in the vehicle is breaking the law.
During a pandemic, be smart - not a penny pincher. The JTB Visitjamaica.com spells it all out.
We want you to be safe, enjoy yourself and return soon!

I never take a white plate or any car that says route taxi on it. I have some friends that usually hang out at LTU with a red plate cab. Never noticed if they are JUTA
