Rum is from sugar not grain. It ages like Cognac or wine
When I worked for W&N I got a taste of barrel found in the in bond warehouse in Spanish Town when it was being rebuilt.
It was said to be from the late 1800s. This was 1968. I'll never forget that aroma and taste

Go for the Appleton 12 year it’s awesome mix only with a likkle iceHere in the states with tax it’s about 50 u.s. Its about the same in negril I found , well worth it.
I agree with striper. I think Kingston 62 is the new name for what was Appleton Special (ok for mixing). Blackwell is a single pot still and to me it is an acquired taste.
