A few years ago, I arrived in Jamaica on a holiday and all the stores were closed. I asked the fellow who carried my bags to my room where I was going to be able to find a new sim card for my cell phone, he excused himself and was back in less than 10 minutes with a sim card for my phone. I have never seen anyone as happy as him when I gave him a brand new Corona baseball cap! I agree that most of them would prefer money, but I usually bring a few gifty items along if I have room. The ladies at the craft market always ask me if I have something to trade for their wares.
