There's a great security item for travelers, a little door jam u can put under the knob with rubber on the bottom of the device, and it works perfect. Aint NO ONE getting through that front door. I think I brought it to the RIU once or twice when word had spread of break-ins -- though I was greatly ridiculed about it on another board, it provided comfort and ease.

Not sure about the sliding glass door situation ..... Some hotels are safer than others, of course; Mike, the security at Bar B Barn, said no one ever breaks in there -- he said I didn't even have to bother with using the safe!

It's funny when you hear about these incidents as they always seem to happen on the beach.
Not saying the Cliffs is immune but when was the last time you heard something like this happening on the Cliffs?
And that incident a few years back at Mirage doesn't count as I got the true story from the old manager.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I'd be terrified to wake up with a stranger in my room. Luckily you were able to chase him off before he took much but That's really really terrible!

Scuba Scott, sorry this happened to you. I'd be freaked out waking to someone in my room.

These door stop alarms, can they be purchased at dept. stores or hardware stores?

MissNegril, the true story about Mirage was stated on this board. Whatever you were told was, I'm sure, an attempt to try to cover her own butt. And there is a good reason she is the "old" manager. I hadn't brought up the property name again because we have previously met the new manager and I'm sure the place is being run much better now. Sorry, but your character judgment is off.

Actually if you want to get into it, I spoke to another guest that was there when it happened as well as another employee and made my judgment based on the factual information I was told. Which was much more of a story that you enlightened us with here on this board. Funny how people will leave things out when they have used poor judgment on their vacations.

The only reason I'm replying to you is because what you say is total BS and I don't appreciate it. I'll drop it after this, since it happened almost four years ago. I can't imagine what you would have been told that was left out, if anything, and I highly doubt you heard anything from a guest that was there at the same time. If a guest (or staff member) told you anything, it would have been second hand info from the manager there. We're not trouble makers in any way and had never had anyone, outside of housekeepers, in our rooms. The only poor judgment we made was staying at that property and believing the manager when she told us we didn't need a safe (we asked when we got there, to put our passports and some cash in). It was obvious someone got in the room with a key, since our room was always locked (whether we were inside or out for the day). Afterward, she told us she might be able to get some of our stuff back, like the watch. Funny, she seemed to have known where some of the stuff could be retrieved. Yes, your judge of character is definitely off...or something.

About the door stop alarm. I checked CT and three other stores so far and none had them. Has anyone tried the little stick on contact alarms for doors?

sounds like it's time to put in new doors......it's going to keep happening till they do........
sliding doors are sometimes thieves best friends as they are easy to open even when they are locked......
of course they could hunt for new locks for the sliding doors but they probably aren't made anymore since they are pretty old so they'd be hard to find.....plus it's the doors that are the problem....
I've replaced mi share of dem cheap sliders over the years here in the states....
there is no deterrent with those sliders they now have.........

fix the door problem and the thieves will go away......

I had the same problem at another resort on the beach as the sliders would never locked properly.......
fortunately I never had any problems but it did bother this guy in the back of his mind.........

CarrieBean - Not sure where you're from but in Canada they can be purchased at Canadian Tire for sure. My neices apartment was broken into a few weeks ago so she picked some up. Hers are stick mount sensors. You can put them on windows and doors. Very loud alarm if the door or window opens!

Thank you. I'll check out Canadian Tire today. I wonder if these still work properly if there isn't much of a space at the bottom of the door.
