No you need the original to get into the country (not even a passport card qualifies). I just lock my passport into the hotel safe for the duration of my trip til I leave to go home.

I highly recommend that you don't carry it on the beach. Really the only time you'd need it would be to rent a car, exchange money at a bank or cambio, or something like that and in those cases I'd go directly to the place you need to do business at and then straight back to your hotel room safe with it.Originally Posted by negrilmaven
