Agreed on dat! We left for Zimbali at 4:00 this afternoon and returned at 8:00. No smell before but it’s now kicking in. We were told today that it may take another week for the entire beach to be cleaned of nature’s debris. Vibes still excellent and we love it here…no matter…no worries.

any updates on the beach? I checked the coco web cam and still quite a bit of seaweed piled up. Is it still washing ashore or is this left over still? thanks

This is the remaining seaweed from last week. The rough seas didn't end until last Wednesday/Thursday.

Many places are done or nearly done cleaning, but the places owned by the government haven't been touched yet.

The PM was in town Saturday and declared it an "emergency" in name only saying that it will take some time because of the new procurement process.

Some neighboring properties are going to take it upon themselves to do the necessary cleaning for the government.

This has been the standard operating procedure for any time the sea decides to clean itself, "emergency" or not. I haven't seen the government clean the Negril beach in the past 30 years.

A positive outcome is that the fishermen are reporting that the reefs have been cleared of algee and seaweed growth.

Just being real here, the beach still has a lot of rotting seaweed. If you are lucky enough to stay in a resort that has cleaned their beach and has no seaweed floating in the water like we do you are fine. The water has been so calm since the storm the ocean hasn’t cleaned the beach as it normally does. We have been watching the amazing natural rebuilding of the beach lost in front of 1Fusion and travellers. Fusion had an over the water deck for awhile.

That is as clean as they get at the moment. Still having an incredible time! Plenty to do and the cliffs are all fine now.

This rather contradicts what the PM said to a local radio station:

"During a tour of affected areas on Saturday, Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, shared that while it is considered an emergency, there is a process to be followed.

He commended tourism interests who commenced their cleanup and advised that the Government will focus on public access beaches and assist with private beaches, if necessary."
