Supposed to arrive in Negril Saturday. Looking pretty iffy
What's anyone in Negril hearing? If it's "just" a tropical storm, do you usually lose electricity?

MJS,
Just keep track of the National Weather Service.
Right now it appears to be tracking south of the island.
Stay tuned.
Enjoy,

Re: Supposed to arrive in Negril Saturday. Looking pretty iffy
I was there for a Hurricane 'Near Miss' (Ian) 3 years ago in Oct (landing in Mobay just as it started to get close to the island). They take it seriously and if it's close by, they'll shut down their businesses for a day or 2 until it's safely gone by. So if you're landing there while it's still in the vicinity, I'd stock up some supplies for your room in Mobay, if you can. As for losing power, they didn't have that problem for Ian but when they got hit by the last hurricane, they lost power.

Re: Supposed to arrive in Negril Saturday. Looking pretty iffy
"Just a tropical storm" I live in Florida and worked with FEMA and have worked and personally been through many tropical storms and at times they can be worse than a hurricane. Yes wind speeds are a factor but there is more death and destruction from the rain fall and storm surge. My concern for Jamaica is the rain more then the wind. A slow moving storm is especially dangerous. I personally went through the eyewall of one and it took hours to get into the eye. Not fun. Proceed with caution.

I cancelled it all 2 days ago. Jamaicans need to take care of their own families, not me!

I just flew back from Jamaica and didn't want to chance it. I don't want to take any extra resources away from them after it passes plus who knows how the roads, bridges and condition of the airport will be. I am nervous for everyone on that island....

I live in Ft. Myers and survived Ian. Melissa is a monster not to be played with!!! Looks like it is tracking west I suspect Negril/Mobay will be hit harder than was expected.

I agree that Negril/Mobay will be strongly affected but I'm hoping that if it hits Jamaica, it starts heading north soon so that it makes land fall east of Negril on the south coast so that they avoid the worst of the storm surge (which would be devastating to all the hotels on 7 mile beach).
