A reason not to go now

There is a post on the Facebook page On the Road to Negril.

The post is from Erin who is currently in Negril.

In her post she mentions there is NO POWER in Negril, unless a hotel has a generator and fuel.

NO POWER means no ATM/ABMs or credit card usage!!!

    CASH ONLY!

So unless you are willing to pay with CASH for everything, I suggest you don't go.

VVHT, hhmm, some hotels are operational and will be accepting and need guests asap. Credit card payments are possible there. So I would not generalise. My main concern as a visitor right now would be not to be in the way and take away resources needed by the people of Jamaica.

It?s a tough decision. The west end is a total disaster area and most beach hotels only have a big cleanup ahead. I absolutely won?t go until there is power and water and of course MBJ reopened. A friend told me it?s taking 3 to 4 hours to travel between Negril and MoBay. He also said MoBay was in total gridlock with no traffic signals. Everything is just wait and see at this point. I am confident we?ll be able to enjoy our February trip. Our first trip was February 1989 following Gilbert. Sending love and prayers to Jamaica!! So many have lost absolutely everything and will only have debris to rebuild a shelter.

I usually do pay cash for everything. I don't trust using a credit card in Jamaica.

Agreed! It also helps to stay on budget.

My budget is the wad of cash I bring with goals of spending recklessly.
