Making a purchase at duty free on the way home question

We made a purchase and have a connecting flight.
We have typically put the liquor in a checked bag when we got the bags in charlotte before rechecking.
The person we bought it from put the bottles in sealed plastic bagels and said we could keep in carry on since they were sealed.
We did not want to risk them being confiscated .
Anyone know if packing them back in checked luggage is necessary?
    Thank you

    Spanky,

You best ask the airline but my experience has been that anything in your carry-on luggage, even in a Duty free bag/box runs the risk of being confiscated if you have a connecting flight. That it must be in a checked luggage piece. I could be wrong but that is my understanding.

I was in Kingston flying Kin-MIA-JFK and was about to purchase several $$$$$ of Rum and the kind lady at duty free warned me that I would lose the booze in Miami if it wasn't in checked luggage. Therefore I didn't purchase and in Miami there was a big barrel filled with confiscated bottles. They must have some big parties at TSA!!

I've actually done this with the 'specially sealed security bags' and I've had no problem getting through.
Make sure you have the receipt and never unseal the bag until your flight is complete.

As Lisa said, things have changed now with the implication of the tamper proof sealed bags. Just tell the duty free people you are on a connecting flight. They will put it in a tamper proof sealed bag with the receipt showing but in the bag. At your connecting screening TSA will want to see it so take it out of your carry on bag at the security gate before going through X-Ray. They may want to cut the bag open and scan it but then they will re-seal it and you should be good to go. Done this many times without issue. If fact the only issue I ever had was when I forgot to take it out of my carry on bag before X-Ray. They just opened my bag, took out the booze, checked the tamper proof sealed bag for rips and told me to have a nice day.
