    Home Sweet Home Feb 4-11

Psyched to be heading back to Jamaica after 10 years!! Can't wait. Opinions on Home Sweet Home? It looks beautiful. I've stayed at Samsara, Xtabi and Coral Seas Garden previously, how does it compare? Recommendations for food and fun in walking distance? Irie, Mon!!

Best beds in Negril. Great views and a good location with an easy walk to town or to go out eat. Jenny's is a half a block away for breakfast or lunch. Lot's of places to choose from for dinner close by. I have stayed at HSH a number of times and recommend it. Xtabi has nicer grounds and resturant and because the owner of Samsara's is such a jerk I don't go there anymore. Never stayed at Coral Seas Gardens but liked the property when we were there.

Good snorkeling both ways from HSH.

Banjo - Thanks, nice to know the beds are nice, we're getting a king room. I thought the location was pretty convenient too. I loved Xtabi and thought the management at Samsara was not so good. What is your favorite dinner spot to walk to? I thought the restaurant at Xtabi was good. I've heard Rockhouse is outstanding, that's right next door isn't it?

Husker - Thanks, we'll be snorkelling, I'm undecided yet whether or not to pack my gear as it cuts down significantly on my available carry on space. I've done it when I go sailing because I know I will snorkel a lot and wear little besides a swimsuit but I need to make the calculation for a cliff week with a gorgeous woman who will have a few nice "take me out" ensembles with her... Do they have decent masks and fins at HSH?

I've never seen decent gear anywhere in Negril. I check a bag with ours in it. There are plenty of good eating places near HSH. Teddy's at Blue Cave Castle, Bentley's, Choices, Just Natural, 3 Dives. HSH used to be pretty good dining for breakfast and dinner.
We're all in this together and none of us is getting out alive.

Guirigay, I've never seen decent snorkeling gear in Negril either. Last year my friend's mask broke, so we tried to find a new one for him ... not even the dive operators had any decent masks. We ended up buying something that was akin to a toy mask. I'd bite the bullet and bring your own ... it's essential gear. Quite often, if I'm not checking a bag, I'll put my mask in my carryon, and then use a karabiner to hook my fins to the outside of my backpack carryon. It's a little unwieldy, but it saves on space on the inside of my bag.

We stayed at HSH in April a couple of years ago,Terry was managing the kitchen and bar and the food was awesome. There was also a little place right accross the street that had really good jerk chicken and cold Red Stripes. We walked to town and up into the West end, nice location for all of that.Loved sitting on our second floor balcony and watching the Dolphins at 10am every morning.Have a great time!!

Thanks for the snorkelling info, I remembered the gear we rented at Xtabi as being less than ideal, and I didn't have a beard and mustache then. Really need a good proper fit on the mask with facial hair and even then you're susceptible to a little leaking. We may just sport one nice going out rig! Sweetie said to wear my linen suit on the plane and she'd be happy on my arm all week! Such a sweetie... Everybody always packs too many clothes for Jamaica anyway, right?
