    Rebel Salute

Is anyone going to the show tonight? One of the best concerts I have been to in Jamaica (went in 2007) They are live streaming it, I might check it out. Anyhow if anyone goes please post photos, vibe etc.

I fell asleep partway through! I am a lightweight and got too comfortable watching it on my laptop!

I logged on to the live streaming show about 10:00 pm (JA time) and stayed with it until close to 8:00 am this morning. An absolutely wonderful concert! The early part of the concert featured reggae greats from as far back as the early 70''s - I saw many of those artists live in Negril during the 80's and every one of them was as good now as they were then (and much to my surprise I still knew most of the lyrics). From about 3:00 am onwards the more current reggae superstars were on. Standouts for me were Maxi Priest; Queen Ifrica, Stephen Marley who did both a solo performance and with his brother Gong; Gramps Morgan, Duane Stephenson; Tarrus Riley, Dean Fraser, Luciano and of course the man himself Tony Rebel. The production team for the live streaming was great - they did live interviews with performers during band changes and the two MC'S were excellent. No waits between artists and even the band changes were quick. Well worth the $9.99 USD to watch. As soon as DVD's are available, I will be ordering (it appears there are usually 3 DVDs each year - one for the "foundation" acts; one for the "singers" and one for "dancehall).

Hopefully for the next concert in January 1013, I will be there in person. I went to quite a few Sunsplash's in the 80's .. including one dubbed "mudsplash" when it rained all week ...when they were held at Jarrett Park in MoBy and we used reggae beds for seating (pieces of cardboard) ... but Rebel Salute had actual chairs in some sections.

All in all, a very enjoyable and uplifting concert!

dang I missed so much! Good for you for staying up BCBud! I made the mistake of moving to my bed with the laptop and missed half of it when i fell asleep. What a show, I loved it live in 07 and streaming was really good as well. They had a tight set up and great shots. I will order the dvd as well when it hits. Will it be from the same site?

I saw the DVD's for previous years on both the amazon website and on the Isand Entertainment website (price range $11.-00 - $15.00). Just google "rebel salute dvd's".

It is tough to keep awake for all of the show when you are comfy ... living in Western Canada I had a 3 hour time advantage but I was sure tired! It's much easier to keep aware when you are there in person.

yes, when I was there I was awake all night no problem. We didn't leave till around 10 am-- the parking was crazy and we had to wait for cars in front of us to leave before we could. No kind of parking lot set up--we were up in a country lane by someone's house.

I was there. As always, a great fun time. I was there in 2007 too - but 2008 remains my favorite.

LOTS of changes at Rebel Salute - some GREAT some not so great and some are, just, well - changes in the "vibe" and crowd.

The highlights for me was Tony Rebel's 50th birthday tribute (50 of those paper/light lanterns lit and sent off from various points in the crowd - beautiful!), his set, Maxi Priest's set and Stephen Marley's set. It was a great line-up this year.
